OC Hiking

Hiked for 5 hours at Mount Si today. Round trip starting at the trailhead was about 9 miles total. Everyone I passed was friendly for the most part. I got mostly smiles and hellos when I was passing other hikers. There were also a few glares and I heard one idiot say "Rambo doesn't f*ck around" when I passed him. I'm not really even sure if I have a right to be annoyed since it was so dumb. One thing though...people just don't hike like they used to. The right of way should be given to those coming up the mountain. Also, some couple was blasting 80's music on their phone speaker as they walked. Guess what a55holes? I don't want to hear your crappy music while I'm enjoying the great outdoors. Besides me being crotchety it was a good OC day.

+1, hit the nail on the head.

I don't mind the right-of-way this as much, but the music out load just totally grinds my gears. Gets some headphones or turn if off. Someone of use are out there to listen to nature, not your music.

Uh, if it makes you uncomfortable then why are you standing here talking to me?

Some people have the need to 'prove' their courage when they feel fear. That the fear is irrational doesn't change the need. So if they're afraid of tarantulas, they might buy one as a pet. If they're afraid of heights they might take a skydiving course. And if they're afraid of inanimate objects, they might verbally abuse or challenge someone who carries one. They know if they do it to a mugger or a cop there would be consequences.

So they harass the guy they feel safe with. And claim he makes them feel unsafe.

Ugh I still haven't worked up the courage to OC around Seattle you guys. I feel much more comfortable while out hiking. I definitely need to get over it and just get out there. Are there any events in the city of Seattle coming up? I want to pop my city OC cherry sometime soon and would feel more comfortable in a group setting.

I would be willing to meet you out there one day.

That would be great! Just coffee or something low key. If we can get a big group together that would be amazing. If not, I think anything to get me comfortable would help. Weekends are best because I'm M-F, 9-6 and commute on the bus. No firearms allowed in my workplace and still waiting on my CPL so week days are tough.

It will come. Be patient, be polite and carry all the time. It gets easier every day. Groups do make it more comfortable

Yea. After you do it the first time, you will get home and think "man, that wasn't a big deal at all. No hassles"

I've open carried in Seattle and surrounding areas many times. Never had a problem

I went to the Seahawks/Raiders preseason game. Decided not to carry. They had kids with metal detector wands. But it was funny. My pants have rivets. I wear a sizable silver belt buckle. My suspendies have steel loops and rivets. Even after taking a couple hand fulls of change, keys camera and such out of my pockets, I still kept beeping that stupid wand. I was wearing a large raincoat and could have been CC kidney carry and they wouldn't have known if I didn't print. But I didn't want to risk it and the friends I went with that bought the tickets came down from Canada. Didn't want to screw up their vacation.

What stadium was this at?

Do you have a CPL?

If was one of the 'publicly owned' stadium and you have a CPL they could not have kept you out.

Good luck with that. Let me know how to works out for you. I too carry at the football/baseball games but I don't flash my card and expect them to let me in. This has been brought up before but no one has tackled the issue directly. I hope you are on point for this.

I don't care for sports games. However if it means getting the issue cleaned up, then I might as well buy a ticket {barf} and go. I would bring a printout of the law and make an issue out of it. Would even charge up a camera to record it with.

Would that make you happy?

Is there ANY privately own stadium in Seattle? What about WAshington?

Let me know when you are going to try it. I go to games once in awhile and would like to film the interaction.

I open carried to Outdoor Emporium today. Noticed they had tons of ammo in stock, I was kind of shocked. They have nearly every type of rifle ammo, all types of pistol ammo, and tons of 22LR. Hell, their shelves were overflowing and they had a big pallet in the middle of the firearms area on the floor stacked with even more ammo. Good prices in 45, 9mm, 40, 22LR, and all shotshells.

There was a KCSO deputy next to me at the counter who didn't even blink an eye at my strong side. He was buying tons of ammo.

Did some shopping at Ross in Redmond.

Security guy came up to me and said something to the effect of, "So you do have a license to carry that thing, right?"
I responded that there was no license required to open carry.
SG: It makes a few customers nervous, can you do something to cover that up?
Me: (wearing a drop leg holster) This is the only holster I have for it I have no way to cover it, and I am not trying to worry anyone.
SG: Okay, I had to say something, I know you're not trying to cause a problem

The end.

It was a different encounter, not bad just different. I was not asked to leave or anything...

I had a conversation about OC with a guy who's wife/sister/sister in-law (?) is a cop and he was telling me that OC is fine unless someone calls the police on you and then you have to conceal it.

I informed him that the law does not say that. So I cited the "In a manor place time etc that would warrant alarm..."

He told me that it's up to the individual to decide if they are alarmed by your open carry and that if they call the police then the alarm was warranted....

---- Wow

Just remember there are still the ignorant out there who are destroying our rights.....
