Grocery shopping is safe, right?
http://www.cbs58.com/news/local-news/Man-shot-during-robbery-172990431.html
(Also, the area is not safe, & the store has bars on its doors & windows.)

ETA: the robber seems to have lucked out... according to Google maps there's not a school within 1000', so as long as he unloaded & encased before driving off he didn't break that law. (Of course, he'd have to know the schools were there.)
I'm guessing he probably doesn't qualify for a hide-your-gun license.

Dogs will protect you, right?
http://www.cbs58.com/news/local-news/Dog-Dies-After-Pitbull-Attack-in-Kenosha-172995751.html

If you watch the video, she describes how she picked up her dog (the object of the pit bull's attack), kept holding the dog higher (which would be an enticement to the pit bull to jump higher, which it did), eventually knocked her to the ground, and while some neighbors did respond to her screams, some children came to 'help' too.
One girl describes how the woman was on the ground with her body over the little dog... I'm surprised she wasn't seriously harmed.

The victim was in my concealed carry class last Saturday and Glock girl and I have become friends with her. She described in detail what happened and what was going through her mind during the ordeal. Some comments from readers in the press took issue with her shooting skills, but she did exactly what she needed to do: shoot to stop the threat. And she did this after being awakened from sound sleep and while being drenched with pepper spray. I challenge anyone to display their marksmanship skills under those circumstances (add also the accompanying physical and psychological phenomena often associated with a life and death threat.)

She did everything right and she survived. She was on the phone with 9-1-1 as she shot (accidentally disconnecting the call during the commotion.) The police took 12 minutes to get there-- much can happen in 12 minutes. The police were very supportive of her actions.

She is still experiencing some sleeping and other emotional difficulties but fortunately she has a lot of support from her friends and her employer.

She did well. I can't imagine being woken up by pepper spray and having to defend myself because I don't know the intent of the felon.
