This was years ago... No pics unfortunately..

I DO have a story about a guy who bought a surplus radio which happened to NOT be demiled properly though... :celebrate

This guy came on a radio board that I'm a member of and started asking about a Motorola encryption module that he found in his radio, but he called MOTOROLA trying to figure out what the module was, and the reps told him that it didn't exist, it wasn't in any parts database, etc. (lol). After he gave us the model number, a few of us had recognized what it was... It was a 'very fascinating' (wink wink, nudge nudge) Type 1 CCI. Of course it's not in any Motorola parts lists, lol. We kept trying to give this guy a hint saying 'it doesn't exist'. He didn't get the hint. He kept arguing 'I have it right here in front of me, you can't tell me it doesn't exist'. So then we started telling him to ditch it, burn it, destroy it, just F'in get rid of it. He wanted to go on a rant about he paid for it, so it was his, and noone could tell him otherwise...(strike 1) He then started asking about how to get a keyloader, and how to make it operational.(Strike 2) After we told him he was a moron, and to stop while he was ahead, he said he was just going to sell it :uhoh: (strike 3) . We went another round of 'GET RID OF IT!' but he didn't want to listen, and left pretty pissed because noone would 'help' him....

.. A few weeks later he comes back and asks everyone why they didn't warn him (oh yeah we did,lol).. Apparently he got a nice 3am wakeup call with a bunch of nice gentlemen wanting to know how he got a hold of classified COMSEC material, why he was trying to use it, and who he was trying to sell it to.

I'm amazed that stuff like that actually gets out, #1, but #2 is how do you have someone DUMB ENOUGH to not turn it in, or at least destroy it, once you find out what it is?

BTW, for those wondering, I wasn't in the military, I'm just a geek who 'knows things' ;)

EDIT: Added pic, NO it's not mine, lol.

Just how in the hell do you run a "long gun" range in a 75 yd gravel pit?
Sorry T Dr - just noticed my typo. It's about 150 yards by 75. And I said "long gun" not "long range" - I meant it was good for handgun, shotgun and short range rifle. And before you say 150 yards isn't long enough for a rifle let me suggest "smaller target". :)

The whole pit is about dead level and surrounded by a 10 to 20 foot wall. It's a great place on a sunny day (like tomorrow).

Anyone interested?

If that's the pit on Simpson Paper land just before McCleary, it's currently full of water. Also, DO NOT shoot towards the west; there's a house out that way and they WILL get the pit closed (again) if you do.

Mainsail - no worries, different pit. I was just trying to find the name and it may be Triangle Pit, not sure yet. Its certainly further ESE from there. It is legal to shoot there, just verified it on the DNR site.

http://www.dnr.wa.gov/Publications/amp_rec_capitol_forest_rec_plan.pdf

We were up there two weeks ago and all was sunny and dry, could have changed of course.

T Dr -
1. Good shooting!
2. A 5" X-ring means those are LARGE HOLES!

I've never shot off of sticks. That looks like it must be at least as good as your average "informal" rest like a boulder etc., and probably a lot easier to carry.
