The wife and I are looking to get back in the gym so we visited two clubs last night to get the skinny on features and dues. OC'd first to Oz Fitness in the Valley. The manager on duty, Terry, shook my hand as he greeted us and caught a good look at the sidearm. As he was seating us he says "Please tell me you a member of law enforcement or something?".

"Certainly not." I said, "Just an average citizen exercising my right to defend myself."

"Oh, that's cool. I just moved here from Florida and have my CPL. I am a concealed guy myself, but that 's cool man."

I proceeded to hand him a pamphlet and shared about WA vs. FL gun rights and he was really cool about the whole thing.

Second stop was to Global Fitness in the Valley. I am pretty sure the guy caught a couple glances but he never said a word the whole time we were there.

OC during lunch time walk downtown got a few strange comments today. First, a crack head yelled f*** you at me, not sure if it was related but it was funny. Second, after a bum asked for money he grumbled, “Must be a cop or bounty hunter carrying that” to which I replied, “nope”, he was not interested in further information. Last, a guy yelled don’t shoot from across the street.

8/25 Allsport motorcycles in the Valley... No issues... even stood talking to the owner for a while...

Rode the motorcycle over with the lilac city wings group to get dinner... Some of them had questions including the "cop" one... When I told him no he gave me a funny look... I asked it if the last 10 rides my gun had bothered him? He said no.. he hadn't noticed. Ended with "that's cool."

They were all fine with it...

Rob's (rod's?) Seafood and burgers in Post Falls.... No issues.. except the food was just average for me... Service was excellent..

Traveled to Moses Lake for the wife's class reunion picnic. Stopped at a gas station for ice and was approaching the entrance at the same time as another patron. We got about three feet from the door and she stopped dead in her tracks. I thought she was waiting for me to open the door so I reached to open it and the following conversation ensued.

Me: "Oh, I am sorry. Allow me."
Her: Chuckles, "Oh, I was not waiting for you to open the door. Your gun just caught me off guard. I was thinking 'Wow, That guy's armed."
Me: "Well, now you know I am armed and polite."
Her: "That is a good combination." as she laughs and we part ways.

At the picnic I got several "Are you law enforcement?" inquiries followed by brief explanations of why I carry, bot no negative feedback.

8/27--Walmart Moses Lake

Walked in to rent a redbox movie with the wife. She didn't even notice I was armed until she turned around to walk back to me in the line. We lol'd that i was OC and she didn't catch it right away. No other issues.

8/28--Walmart...again

Returned Redbox movie, no mentions by anyone however the young man in front of me seemed a bit flustered once I stood in line behind him to return the dvd.

Now off to enjoy some target shooting outside of Prosser. :)

OC to the Richland McDonalds (I know, McDonalds!) no problem. Probably helps that I have friends who work there, and the managers know me, but anyway... no problems. Haha.

Then took my OC piece to the range in Pasco, no issues. Also had the entire range to myself the entire time. Very nice. Put about 300 rounds through it... you'd be amazed what a grain and a half of powder will do with your shot groups.

Then I OCed to a Sun Mart in Pasco and got some gasoline and drinks at about 10pm. Not a problem. A Pasco PD even stopped for a drink at the same time, just gave me a nod and I returned it.

Not too much OC exposure, but I was making a range run after work after some rounds just happened to fall into my lap.

Hey folks,
I've taken to OCing allot lately.
Not much to report, which I guess is a good thing!
When I carry concealed my weapon of choice is a Glock 17, but fer open carry I’ve been sticking with an old Uberti .44 magnum thumbuster.
I’ve been wearing this on my pants belt because my cartridge belt finally gave up the ghost and I haven’t replaced it yet.

This weekend I went to Big R in Mead to get meself a new cowboy hat.
Got a Stetson “Lonesome Trail” and I’m pretty durn happy with it I must say.
Uh, also went to the burger basket in Clayton, and the Yokes in Deer park.
Nobody seemed to care I was openly armed.
Next day my wife and I bucked 40-odd bales of hay out of some field north of deer park, and the farmer didn’t seem to care either, or maybe didn’t notice.

Now last week I drove down to Spangle to investigate a little problem at the waste water plant, and the operator commented first on the terrible hat I was wearing (not up to my usual standard and the last straw that broke the camels back, prompting the trip to buy a new one come the weekend) but did eventually ask if I was carrying a .22 pistol.
“Nope, it’s a .44 mag.”
Whereupon we had a fine time talking about guns and so on when we both should have been working.
Anyway, at work I get away with open carry just fine, although I think my Boss would rather I didn’t. Still, she puts up with it and doesn’t say anything.

I’ve open carried at a number of stores in the area and the Holiday gas station up on Division, but I stay out of Wal-Mart as I thought they had it posted something to the effect that they preferred customer that weren’t heeled?

Also, I chickened out and covered up my hogleg when I went into Global credit union, my bank.
Now, I’ve open carried at my wife’s bank with no worries, so why did I chicken out at mine?
Do y’all carry open into the banks you do business with?

Also, I saw mention of several folk that carry open in the parks in Spokane.
I don’t have much cause to do that as I don’t live in Spokane, but I figured what with the local law and local law enforcement being what they are, that I’d better stick to CCing ifn I did wander thataway.
Has anyone successfully challenged that law against carrying in Spokane parks?

Oh, by the way, I saw some feller in line at Yokes in Deer park a week or two ago, right ahead of me in line, who was OCing some sort of automatic.
I didn’t talk to the feller though.
Heh, was it one of you guys?

Bob,

Thanks for sharing and keep it coming.
In regards to your concern about Wal-Mart, many of us have carried there in a regular basis with no issues in Spokane. It is not posted, and while you might draw a little more attention with your big wheel gun, my guess is that you will find that no one pays you any mind.

Regarding the parks, that has also been addressed by many on this forum. The city is aware that it is an unenforceable law though I do knot know what is being done at this time to correct it. Fetch may be able to speak more to that.

Keep checking in on this forum and topic to stay abreast of the OC happenings in Spokane, hope to see you around sometime.

I would pay attention to something like that!! I'd even have to do something about it! I'd have to go and introduce myself to the biggest unicorn that I had ever seen!

Bob, welcome to the Forum. Great place for a wealth of information! Read up and find out the places that are off limits. From there....carry everywhere it is legal! Maybe we'll see you at a get together sometime soon! Again...Welcome!

Walked through pig out in the park on my lunch break today with no issues.

Uh, I have no idea what "Walked through pig" means...Wait wait, I get it. Your referring to that Pig Out in the Park thing, where they got lots of food and stuff in the park. OK, got ya. Happy to hear you had no problems!

I probably need to get out more.

Uneventful week for me, wore me trusty six-shooter all week long. One feller at a gas station asked me what my piece was, and complemented me on it. More importantly, a cop right behind me in line at the counter when I went to pay fer me gas didn't say a word, and I reckon that's a very good thing indeed! He had a green uniform on, looked like a Stevens county deputy, but I didn't look closely.

A few other stops here and there spent a half hour helping a lady who needed her car jumped, no remarks one way or the other. Good. I know open carry isn’t common because I very seldom see anyone else doing it, but I guess it’s common enough that folks don’t go running and carrying on at the sight of a sidearm.

OC'd today first to the South Hill Library branch for a little study club action. Thanks to Bennie and Kwolfhound for showing up. Had a good chat.

Next we were off to Hoffman Music Co. to buy a gig bag for my son's bass. The owner called me a JackAss, but that is because she knows me. No problem there.

Then to Jimmy John's for lunch. No trouble there either, see related thread.

The day is not over yet, I may be back for more.

I know Orphan already claimed this one, but I was in the Deer Park Yokes a few weeks ago as well, OCing my Kimber 1911. The kid at the checkout counter asked if I was in the Armed Forces, when I answered in the negative he asked if I felt more secure carrying. Seemed pretty laid back about it.

Great thread, I carry whenever I'm in Spokane (Live up North about an hour) and I'll update regularly. Would be nice to get to know some of you guys IRL, other than one gentleman who works at the Shadle Wal-Mart I haven't done a whole lot of socialization among the 'bretheren'. :)
