I'm a member at the Eagle range in your part of town and will be going to a range in Mooresville tomorrow for the first time.

Wish I saw this sooner I would have told ya to not waste your money or time there. Its been getting alot of mixed reviews, I know I have had bad experiences there.... Shame too really nice facility and one of the owners seems like a nice guy.

What problems have you had at Eagle? I'm a member there and have had pretty good experiences, so far.

I was told I could not carry my weapon either at Eagle. I went ahead and spent my time there in the lanes. I don't go there anymore. The ventilation was a bit lacking, I was coughing and tasting lead for a couple days. I now go to "The Range at Lake Norman" This place is super nice!! The lanes has the BEST ventilation I have ever experienced and the staff is super nice. They do ask you only use TMJ ammo though, and they have good prices on their ammo.

You were told you could not carry??? That's ridiculous! How long ago did that happen? Who told you that? The owner, Mike, is as pro-2A as they come. Honestly, it sounds like some sort of miscommunication.

Sorry I was talking about PBR in Mooresville, Eagle is a pretty nice setup, I just don't like their over zealous rules. And the Range at Lake Norman has got to be 1 of the nicest civilian ranges I have ever stepped foot in. But in all honesty, I think them requiring TMJ is just a big scam. Just 1 more way to make an extra buck. Because of all that I still will drive the 40+ min to Elite Training Academy in Indian Trail to shoot. Its small, laid back, and very cheap!

There was some drama over the ammunition being sold at Lake Norman being sold as TMJ, but being sold by the manufacturer as FMJ. I don't think anyone cut the bullet itself open to verify, but the manufacturer was indeed selling them as FMJ originally. With that said, I've heard a lot that's great about the place, so my gut would say that it wasn't an intentional farce, if it is indeed a farce at all.

The one thing I can say about Eagle is that they somewhat lead someone I know astray with an overpriced gun they they were selling that seemed to have been very poorly taken care of. I don't know if the staff hadn't had time to clean it, but if it were my gun, I would have been nothing less than appalled. A military man would have had a fit.

Yes, I started a thread about PBR in Mooresville a while back when they asked me to check my gun because I was OC, and 'gun's scare people' so they don't want anyone to see any (in a gun shop).

They say its for safety of the RSO and shooters, trying to limit the lead exposure. Coming from a guy who has spent his entire life around guns and ranges, for fun and professionally, that is the biggest load of crap I've heard. Their associates dont spend enough time indside the range to worry about lead exposure, especially with their filtration system. You would have to stand right next to someone shooting a gun for 8hrs a day, everyday for years before lead exposure became an issue.

I have seen pitures and youtube vids of people who have bought range ammo with a sticker/price tag that states its a box of TMJ. But when they peel the sticker off the factory box states the ammo is FMJ.

I dont know if this is true, maybe they just recycle boxes? IDK This is what I have read and seen on the internet

I remember that thread, "people shopping in a gun store/range are scared of guns" "thats why all of our employees are OCing!"

I couldn't OC because I havent had any firearm training but as I'm standing at the counter TEACHING the EMPLOYEE about guns, the guy standing next to me whips out his fully loaded concealed handgun and starts showing it off and passing it around to a group of employees..... yeah but I have no safety training......

I wish you had seen my post sooner also. I must first say that PBR in Mooresville is a very beautiful shop and the employees are great.
The owner was very very helpful and friendly, I could see myself hanging out with this guy.
The only issue I had was the one employee that seemed a little to focused on me and the few friends I was with.
Although he smiled alot, he was becoming very annoying with rules that seemed to only pertain to me and my party.
They lack a table at thre rear of the range lanes to place your gear on so we had to use the floor.
We bought several guns with us and at least 600 rounds of our own ammo and purchased plenty of their targets.
In the 2 hours we were there, we were interrupted enough for me to wonder if I'd go back.
I was told that we couldn't keep our EMPTY firearms on the lane tables for safety reasons, cool.
But when I holstered my EMPTY firearm, I was now told that I could not OC a firearm without having a CCP.
After explaining that I have passed a Concealed Carry Handgun training class just weeks earlier, I was told OC was for LEO and employees of the range.
I love the price, and liked talking with the owner, but this one employee that either was rejected for a career in Law enforcement or wants to be Spec Opps really bad,
killed my desire to go there again. I may try and find out what days he doesn't work, and go on those days.

Or have a relaxed, friendly conversation with the owner. Ask him for clarification, rather than directly complaining about the employee. If he says anything different than what you've been told, then you can point out that you were advised differently - he's sure to ask by whom.

Solve the problem if possible - that's what we do.

The problem at PBR is truly an issue with OC, the sign they had on the door last year when I first went reads:
"Store Policy - Lawfully carried concealed handguns are welcome at Point Blank Range, provided they stay concealed at all times. All other firearms must be unloaded (underlined) and either in a case or carried openly in a safe condition until you are on the firing line."

I was a bit surprised that they even hassle you on the firing line, I guess they only allow unloaded OC in transit to/from the range.

I sent an email after my experience with them, but they did not want to engage in a dialog in support of their position so I decided I didn't want to return. I'll support a range with better policies and not as nice facilities over one that seems to suppress the rights of their own customers (or potential ones at least)!

Considering the other range options in the area, the policy at PBR means they won't be getting any of my business.

she; oh you have a gun on
me; yes ma'am
she; are you some kind of LE?
me; no ma'am, i am a LAC. law abiding citizen
she; well good for you. i am scared of carrying a gun
me; all women should carry
she; my mother always carried and i was afraid that it would go off
me; did it? you know they don't go off on their own
she; i'm still scared

My mom was scared of the same thing when it came to pistols. She'd grown up shooting a few rifles, but never a pistol. But the more I take her to the range, the more comfortable she is around one. Too bad we can't take all the people to the range who understand the importance behind carrying, but need to get over that fear.

My mother is absolutely terrified of guns. Being as my uncle was shot and killed during a shooting spree in chapel hill a few years back, i'd say her fear is understandable. She has shy'd away from LEO's in public because of their guns, and tells me she would prefer me to BE armed... I love my mother. Got into an arguement with a lady in the middle of wallyworld defending my right to carry. I taught her well...
