Yellow Cat To Offer WI DOJ Concealed Carry Course

The Yellow Cat has downloaded the Wisconsin Dept of Justice Training Manual and slideshow presentation and, if there is sufficient interest, will be offering a Wisconsin Concealed Carry Course lasting 4 hours and meeting WI DOJ requirements. A course completion certificate meeting the WI DOJ requirements will be issued to students who pass the course. The Yellow Cat meets WI instructor requirements as he is certified by a National Organization that Certifies Firearms Instructors (NRA) and a Law Enforcement Agency that certifies firearms instructors (Utah BCI) - by whom I am certified as a Utah Concealed Firearms Permit Instructor.

If there is sufficient interest, the WI CFP course will take place after the Utah Concealed Firearms Permit Course scheduled for November 12, 2011 from 10 am - 2 pm. I continue to recommend that WI residents get the UT permit for the purpose of reciprocity in neighboring States (example: MN) or when traveling across country. Currently, WI residents may carry in WI on a WI Permit and in 14 States (3 of which, VT, AK, and AZ are constitutional carry). The UT Permit gives Wisconsin Residents a total of 33 States in which they may carry; nearly 70% of the USA. And, my fees are at best 20% of the going market rate in WI for the UT permit (and that is if you are not a WI Carry member or not a member of NRA). If you are a disabled vet or hold the purple heart, my fees are less than 5% of what the UT CFP course is going for in WI.

NIK of WI Carry is promising WI Residents Free Training. I would be a hypocrite if I were to do any less. Thus, if there is enough interest, and I hold the course, the fee will be "voluntary pass the hat" with no requirement to actually contribute, but recognizing that the Yellow Cat could be using this time to teach his much more lucrative courses (such as "Golfing With Glocks"). Please keep in mind that when the Yellow Cat visits Wisconsin, he travels 1500 miles one way to do so.

So, is there interest?

I would be in if it's not too far of a drive...I'm stuck in the SE corner.

The UT CFP course (if you read my earlier posting) will be at the East Troy Airport on Saturday, 10am - 2pm. The WI permit course, if there is enough interest, will follow. I continue to recommend that WI CARRY members take the UT CFP course as well for reciprocity - and because there is no way you get this course in WI for 20% max of what other instructors are charging.

Are you still doing a course after lunch on Friday the 11th, Utah only?

Would like to join you for lunch if able.

I am interested in Friday(lunch sounds great!) and/or Saturday depending on vaca availability and wife's return flight being as scheduled.

Have dates "penciled in".

I'm in, for the WI. I'm not sure I could hold still long enough for 8 hours of class to take both of them.

Let's Do Lunch

I would love to have your join me for "lunch with veterans" - if able. You will be delighted with the fish at Blue Bay in Mukwonago.

For a Friday course, please PM me with your contact info. I do not usually offer courses to just one person, but will under circumstances that dictate the person cannot attend a scheduled course. The personal one on one gives me a chance to teach things that I do not have time to teach in a large classroom setting. MKEgal has already indicated that she wants to join me for lunch on Friday so there may be two BCI Certified and NRA Certified Instructors to lean on.

There is a great deal of redundant content with the UT and WI courses (federal law - firearms familiarity, etc) - thus a UT course followed by the WI course would not take 8 hours as 2 of the 4 hours of the UT and WI courses are redundant. Thus, unless there is considerable interest in the WI only course, I recommend that students take the UT course (and thus become eligible for a UT permit) and then spend the extra 2 hours on the WI course. (Some slides in the WI course will take 30 - 60 seconds instead of 10 - 15 minutes as they will have already been extensively covered in the UT course - example: the WI DOJ course calls for an exercise in safe loading of inert ammunition into both a revolver and a semi-auto pistol - that will have already been covered in the UT course).

I have analyzed the WI DOJ course. They took the NRA Pistol Course Slides and the UT and AZ Instructor slide concepts and married all of this into one slide presentation and textbook lesson. My observation is not a criticism - indeed, that is SMART THINKING. Wisconsin did not want to violate the copyright on the NRA courses so they took their own photos and did their own interactive presentation, but as an NRA Instructor familiar with the NRA Basic Pistol Course, I cannot help but notice the similarities.

NOW having read this thread AFTER I responded to the other one, I could probably do 6 hours for both courses without getting restless leg syndrome. :) So that's a vote for both classes then.

Yellow Cat: I just ran your idea past my wife and she is up for the two of us setting through the Wi permit course after the UT permit class for a total of 6 hrs. She needs a Wi course sometime anyway so this will be the best time to complete it. Am I correct in the fact that we will need a the Wi permit to obtain a UT permit after 11/1/11? Also I am unable to persuade any of my friends to come, so at this time it appears it will be just my wife and I. We will try to do our part to make it worth your while.

As one of the working class poor I would be greatly interested in the course(s). I dont have a CC weapon yet (need to save up for it :() but if a weapon is required for the training I do have my OC sidearm. Let me know when/where you decide and I will do my best to attend.

What is the final dollar amount needed for the UT class? If you dont want to post it please PM me. I have to watch every penny.

The thread topic title is "Yellow Cat Visits Wisconsin - Again (Maybe the Last Time for Awhile). My prices are based on Utah prices (40% of what this course goes for in WI) with deep discounts on top of that for military service and membership in WI Carry and/or NRA. Those fees are for the UT course. The UT course fees range from $10 if you are a Disabled American Veteran or a Combat Veteran With the Military Order of the Purple Heart - to - $40 if you have never served and have never joined any 2A group. WI Carry members who are not members of NRA pay $25 and WI Carry Members who are also NRA members pay $20. As you can well imagine, these fees do not make me any money but do pay gas and meal expenses.

I had hoped to offer a separate WI Class for free (with a Pass the Hat for Tips thing). However, I am getting many PM messages indicating that folks want the UT permit and would attend the WI Course if and only if I blow through the things in the WI course that have already been taught in the UT course. This has the Yellow Cat puzzled. On the one hand, I want to offer the best quality training to the most people, but on the other that means that the UT and WI courses may have to get tied together in order to do that. It is a matter of numbers. I have to ponder this. The WI course does not lend itself to being rearranged and UT law prohibits me from teaching a joint course.

More later when I figure this out.

Just trying to interject some humor into the thread.

However I am seriously interested in the course and plan to attend. Of course there are potential factors such as date and location to consider but unless there is something more pressing I will attend. Hopefully both will be available.

How is it looking for your WI permit class on Nov 12th? My father and a friend of his are looking for a WI permit class, so I thought I'd send them your way if that's still on.
