I'm looking into maybe starting some meet and greets around the Alamosa/San Luis valley area, I'm just curious as to how many people on the Co forum is close enough to Alamosa to maybe make it to some if i get em started up. I was going to try to start one up around my birthday in the start of June but haven't been able to get on and ask around until now. way to go procrastination! so basically I'm just feeling around to see how many people could make it and make it worth doing them. i hate living away from springs/pueblo area because i have to miss most of the meet and greets up there. Hope you all had a great Memorial Day!

just a side question, Our Public parks here have a sign up, i wish i could have taken a pic ill get one when I'm not OC'ing (which is almost never now, ha ha) but its says something along the lines of Fireworks, FirearmsMotor vehicleses prohibited. but idoesn'tnt give a C.R.S. or anything of that manner. it doesn't have a No Weapons sign as normal its all in text among all the rest of the "Park laws" darn i need to get you all a pic, maybe i can do that today at some point. i know a city can enact ordinances but don't they have to at least give referencece to a C.R.S? I have looked up all the laws around here and i cannot for the life of me find any sort of law that states that they prohibited firearms in public parks here but apparently they did. does it hold the power of law like all other no gun signs? is there someone i can ask about the actual ordinance numbers or something? i just don't understand how they can make every single open public park no weapons in the city, i thought there was some sort of preemption or something that made it so i could be safe while at the park walking my dog. now i get to walk on the back "dikes" where all the homeless and the shadiest of people hang out and do drugs. great place to be alone with my dog right? Any ideas on this would be great, thanks for your time!

Howdy Amigo!
If you host a MWAG M&G on a day when I can attend (read... Saturday) I'd be delighted to attend your shindig.

Since I work a regular day job, then also do process service, and also bounty hunting, my time is getting scarce lately.
But I'm pretty open on Saturdays. So....

You say what, where, when and I'll accomplish a bit of how.

I'd also like to suggest you might create a flyer or such to post at gun shops in your area.
Maybe get some folks to come to the Meet and Greet who might be "Open Curious" where they can learn more about it all.
Throw in a few folks who have been OC'ing for awhile now, and you might get some local folks involved and advance the cause in your town.

Anyhow, I'm up for a M&G, assuming it is on a Saturday and I ain't chasing somebody.

Blessings,

Hey, Ya Alamosa is a awesome community that id like to better any way i can. thanks for the great advice thats a really awesome idea, I'm going to have to start planning out some flyer's, it would be great to get more of the community involved and at very least more educated. As for the M&G's ill for sure look into planning em when others from other areas might be able to attend also. it would be great to get as many people together and have a hell of a get together! I'm going to try to get more free to be able to drive up and attend some of the M&G up in the springs area, would be awesome to meet you all in person! thanks for your time! Gotta Love Colorado!!

Howdy Again Pard!
I'd be willing to come on down in the near future just because I love travelling around Colorado. So I might just make up a Meet and Greet with just you one of these days. Since we got the new Jeep, we've been doing much more travel around the state. Alamosa ain't more than what? 200 miles of here? That's a big 'can do!'

Heck ya! that would be way cool, if you haven't been to Alamosa or the valley much its a nice drive from Aurora to Mosa but once here theres not too much to do but yet theres always a way to find something ha ha. i believe don't hold me to it thought that the Sand Dunes is having a Free admission day on June 9th ill have to look into it to make sure but the sand dunes is always a nice place to hang out and soak up some sun. And its legal to open carry in the state park just not a couple of the buildings I.E. the visitors center has no weapon signs posted. it would be nice to just walk the town with a fellow OC'er instead of just myself ha ha. just Pm me when your thinking you may have a little extra time on your hands I'm always down to hang out. And ya Alamosa should be around 200 miles from Your parts its a good drive but i always love the drive! just as all Colorado roads Watch for deer! ha! Grats on the new jeep. Take care!

this is what they cite on the sign at the park, its basicly disturbing the peace. it says on the bottom Rules violations punishable as provided in Colorado Revised Statute 18-9-117 & Alamosa City Ordinances. (which i couldnt find any city ordinances pertaining to handguns)

Okay, so yeah... that would be cool.
It doesn't matter whether the Sand Dunes is having a free day or not. I have free access to any and every National Park, Monument, Recreation or Wildlife area anywhere in the United States, at any time. So I can take a car load of folks and enter any of the national parks without spending a dime, except of course, for fuel! LOL!

I'll PM you with my thoughts tomorrow, but it looks like the wife and I will travel to your neck of the state on the 16th. We intend to visit the Sand Dunes, and maybe also Black Canyon of the Gunnison, since we'll be in the vicinity. We'd welcome you to tag along if you'd like.

As for the Jeep... well... you'd see it first hand when we head down there. Prolly ride in it too, for that matter.

I consider myself reasonably conversant with the English language. In fact, I view myself above average in my ability to speak, write and communicate in Enlish.

That being said, the reading of the ordinance as quoted by you left my head spinning! Who wrote that thing anyhow? Were they going through DT's at the time or what?
I tried reading through it twice, and gave up at the onset of a migraine!

Wow... what a travesty of anything resembling communication arts.

Signs are supposed to exist for the common man on the street to read and understand... without having to drag their attorney along in the car to help them decipher something so completely convoluted. I wonder how many people have been fined or jailed simply because they couldn't decode all that incomprehensible drivel.

Anyhow, from what I did glean from the darn thing, they can abdicate your rights on a whim, or believe that to be the case.
Looks like a lawsuit looking for someplace to litigate!

Similar sign

I went to the Springs airport yesterday and saw a similar sign referencing the same CRS. The only difference was that it also referenced a city code prohibiting oc in municipal buildings. I just found that odd considering that Springs is supposedly OC friendly and but not at the airport when you can OC at DIA (outside the secure area). That 18-9-117 seems to be a catchall rule that they use for everything. And I mean once you've got that on your record I suppose you're pretty much stripped of your rights, property, etc in having to fight it. . . . . . yep, 'land of the free'.

I do NOT recommend OC at the Denver airport, even in the parking area. Denver International Airport is in DENVER. Denver does not recognize OC.

So if someone was to walk into this park carrying a bag of golf clubs, would they get the boot?
Or lets say an unopened can of beer would they get the boot?
