I usually use a holster which has a strap across the gun when I open carry. It may not be necessary, but it might help make it clear that you are not armed to the terror of the people when the dang thing is snapped in place. I'm partial to the Tom Threepersons style and the Jordan Border Patrol type, but a thumb-break holster would serve the same purpose.
