wanted to share my car holster rig

First and foremost, ensure that your state and local laws permit this method of carry, if so follow these steps to duplicate my setup;

1: Purchase a Blackhawk Quck disconnect kit (Additional holster optional if you don't like using the quick disconnect on your hip),

2: Purchase three 1/4" - 20x machine screws. be sure to get a length that will not protrude as far as to interfere with componates that may be inside the console. Purchase at least three 1/4" - 20 nuts, and at least three 1/4" washers

3: Remove your center console IAW the remove & replace procedure for your make and model of vehicle and determine the best placement for your quick disconnect female bracket, taking into consideration for clearance inside the console. there may be components that are very tightly placed in there.

4: Mark out the holes and drill them out with a 1/4" drill bit.

5: Bolt your quick disconnect female adapter to the console and replace it in your vehicle.

6: Attach the male quick disconnect adapter to your desired holster You may need to play with the configuration of the male adapter to achieve the desired ride angle.

That's not a bad design, I'm just not a fan of holster designs that "strap in" my firearm to it's holster. This is why I prefer SERPA. Also the concept I'm using allows me to carry any of my firearms. If I want to carry my 1911 I just grab my 1911 holster lock it in and off I go.

Mounting the SERPA under the dash or on the drivers side of the cockpit means using a lefty holster. I decided to mount mine in this location because I can draw quickly with nothing in the way, like a seatbelt, my leg, the steering wheel, etc. Of course this all boils down to personal preference. In the end, the only right way is your own way.

I've been wanting to do this exact same setup ever since I added the QD plates to my Serpa gear. Unfortunately, my car is a lease, so unless I wanna buy new parts for the car at turn-in, I'm stuck =(

If that issue weren't present, however, I'd have the exact same setup you show. The modularity and flexibility of the system is just about impossible to beat. The QD is also useful in the car if ya have sport/bucket style seats since it's real easy to remove the gun from your hip to sit down in the car vs. having it wedged between flab and seat, so it's certainly not a total loss for car use, even with a lease.

I saw somewhere last night that Safariland has a similar QD-type system that works basically the same way. Well, the mechanics are definitely different, but the results are the same.

You can use ANY HOLSTER, including the SERPA with the Gum Creek Customs rig.
