Want to acquire and give a pistol to someone as a wedding gift

Let me qualify this by stating that I understand or at least think I understand how to transfer a handgun between private owners currently. After this takes place, if I choose to pursue the idea, I would then be giving it to a buddy getting married this summer.

My idea is to acquire a used 9mm Semiautomatic pistol for a friend from Migunowners or a gun store once I have tried and tested it.

I have a CPL which cuts through the license to purchase, but does the recipient of the gift in the second step have to get a license to purchase if it is a gift. My gut says no and you transfer it to him using the same paperwork sales record that is used to transfer it to me first.

BTW...PM me if you have anything for sale in this 9mm catagory. I told him about the idea and he is excited about it. I joked about the firearm being a shotgun since he is sorted having a shotgun wedding just weeks before his baby is due but he is intent on the 9.

Yes the recipient of the gun will have to get a purchase permit. He should not take possesion of the pistol until the PP is filled out.

If the recipient has a CPL you can use form RI-60. IF they do not have a CPL they must have a purchsae permit.

Thanks, thats what I thought. He doesn't have a CPL so he has to get the purchase permit even though it would be a present.

Ummmm...there isn't one really? No registration so as long as you can legally own it you can have it.

And don't forget that he can't be in possesion of it until permit has been filled out.
