“I am Vietnam vet, ex-police, retired and am behind your ideas 100% , anything I can do I would like to help.
I live in Franklin County, which voted down being a sanctuary city being the council is Democratic, a moonshine county giving up their guns is dumb.
The South gave up their flag, their statues and now they want their guns, sounds like Hitler’s Germany.”

Update on Lobby Day. Along with Before and After.

How you can help with lobbying the General Assembly starting on January 8, 2020

While VCDL Lobby Day is on Monday, January 20, 2020, VCDL will actually be busy lobbying the General Assembly from the first day of the session, which is January 8 this year, to the last day that any gun bills are being considered. This is what we do every year and nothing is any different this year.

The third Monday in January is VCDL Lobby Day every year. That date is picked because it is a federal holiday, which allows more gun owners to be able to come to Richmond to lobby their legislators in person and in very large numbers. We also have our annual Lobby Day rally at 11 am that day.

I will need a team of gun owners to help me lobby each weekday, except Fridays, starting on Wednesday, January 8

Bob Sadtler, who is usually my right hand man for lobbying, cannot make it to the General Assembly very often this year, unfortunately. So I am looking to have a team of people help me with VCDL's daily lobbying efforts. If you are retired, or can take a day off work every now and then, and want to help, contact me at president@vcdl.org and I'll add you to the a team. Each day I will advise what time I need the team members to show up for the next day's lobbying efforts. Team members will then meet me at the General Assembly building on that day's scheduled time, whenever they are able to do so. I'm not asking anyone to commit to coming every day, but the more you can come, the better.

The NRA has announced they will have a Lobby Day on Monday, January 13 (without a rally). That day we will be complementing each other's efforts to stop gun control in its tracks. The more people lobbying their legislators, the better!

VCDL will also need "Minutemen" who can provide large turnouts on short notice whenever a gun bill is being heard in a subcommittee or a committee

We need as many of you as possible to act as Minutemen! Usually with about one day's notice, I will be calling members to show up at a hearing and flood the room with people wearing Guns Save Lives stickers! Get there early, as the other side will be trying to do the same. We really need eye-popping numbers of people to show up! This is where the rubber-meets-the-road, folks! Whether it is before, during, or after Lobby Day, we must keep up the pressure in committees and subcommittees.

Be prepared to melt down the phones at the General Assembly and to flood their email in-boxes!

In a little over a week, we will be asking each of you to start contacting your legislators on the phone AND by email. We will ask you to do that each day from Monday through Thursday of each week until we say we no longer need to do that. THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY WILL BE HEARING OUR VOICES LOUD AND CLEAR!

Because of intense interest in Lobby Day and an expected rally on the Capitol grounds, I expect that parking is going to be at a premium on January 20th.

On thought is to take public transit (while armed) to the site of the rally - but of course the Greater Richmond Transit Authority is wonderfully vague on the subject, saying only "No weapons of any kind, except as permitted by law".

Do any Richmonders or Virginians have any suggestions?

>edited to add<: I can't find any prohibitions on handgun carry on buses, but can find nothing on longarm carry - even though I'm not so sure I would do so...

I live in Va. I would go with deep cover (permit required) and ride the bus without hesitation. I will be there on the 20th and a local bus ride may be necessary. Open carry needs no permit in Va but could easily cause an issue regarding the buses.

Everyone is discouraging long gun carry. This the 13th and 20th are political lobby days. Not gun right rally days.

The news stations will haul asz to the first people they see with a long gun simply for the visual effects. This will help them ignore the political aspects of the day.

Richmond area police agencies are looking for about 30,000. I would not be at all surprised to see around 100k.

Watch the news-- cable and broadcast as well as internet. Or come up and see it live and in person.

your kind invitation is noted but the concern
1. place to stay reasonably
2. getting to/from venue site
3. while VCDL has specifically advocated no LGs not sure >100k on non-VCDL citizens will oblige.
4. no articulation of how anyone is going to control of 'momma against all things' or other unsavory & scofflaw minded citizens and my bald spot being a central newspeek story of collateral damage is not how i believe i envisioned my participation in this new decade.

last rally i participated in there were less than 50 kind souls and attending LEs didn't enter the fracas until one of the distractors actively hassling the rally participants took exception to rally member next to him [a undercover lad] and swung at them...

truly can't imagine > 50K >> 100k being controlled by local LEs in the event of hooligans starting a ruckus...

btw, my intent was discussed with several prior to your kind invitation...

The Democrat leadership in the General Assembly continues to be in total disarray and/or trying to avoid any kind of transparency in their actions.
On Friday they did two things:
1) With almost no notice and not even saying who is on the Rules committee until late last night, the Democrats changed the rules to ban guns in the General Assembly and the Capitol buildings. THERE IS NO EXCEPTION FOR CHP HOLDERS. (Bold and enlargement added)
IMPORTANT: there is NO ban outside those buildings, including on the Capitol grounds. Thus, those attending the VCDL Lobby Day Rally, which is an outside event on the Capitol steps, CAN be legally armed.
2) Late into Friday afternoon, suddenly a bunch of really bad gun bills were put on the Senate Judiciary Committee for 8 am Monday. They were hoping we wouldn't be able to get a turnout. We need to prove them wrong. Here, again, is the link to send the committee a pre-written email. If you have NOT done this yet, DO IT NOW! And pass that link on to others!

déjà vu ...

16 Jan 2020 AP quote
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — FBI agents on Thursday arrested a former Canadian Armed Forces reservist and two other men who are linked to a violent white supremacist group and were believed to be heading to a pro-gun rally next week in Virginia’s capital.

The three men were believed to be planning to attend the pro-gun rally planned for Monday in Richmond, according to a law enforcement official who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss an active investigation.

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam on Wednesday declared a state of emergency and banned all types of weapons from the gun rally, citing reports that armed militia groups were planning to attend. [my emphasis] The Virginia Citizens Defense League and Gunowners of America filed a lawsuit Thursday seeking an injunction specifically against the ban on firearms. unquote.

ya'll keep a heightened situational awareness please...
