Uncomfortable with OC?

I remember watching a show. I think it was called 30 days. It had a lady who was anti gun stay with a pro gun family for 30 days. They had her carry a bb gun in a holster to see what it was like and get comfortable with it.

Why not if you are new and have that fear for the first time. For a few days get a bb gun or airsoft pistol(cheaper than a bb gun). Wear it around to a few places you frequent alot. That way if you are stopped by a leo or anyone, you are not carrying a real weapon. You can both laugh about it and you have the chance to open up adiscussion aboutopen carry. Maybe even make a friend.

Or just oc you real gun and when you have to enter a place where you may feel nervious switch it out with the airsoft gun until you get more comfortable. You may even find that once is enough when no one comfronts you. Just don't forget which you are carrying. :)Of course the weigh should be a clue.

You think being stopped by a leo can make you nervious. Try having a 8 year old stop you and question you. They are tougher than cops.

Maybe even those who don't like oc should try it. They may find out it is not that big of a deal and nothing to fear when they see someone who is oc.

Just an idea. May not be for everyone. I am not doing it and I am new to oc. But it may help to aliviate thefear for some who are new to oc.

You stand a batter chance of getting ticket with a toy on your side than you do with a real firearm

There is only one problem with that theory, Many places have a law about "Facsimile Firearms" and they can also prohibit you from carrying a BB or pellet gun because the right to carry those is not enumerated in many state constitutions or are they preempted like firearm laws.

One also never wants to make someone else think that he is carrying a firearm when he is not. That might bring about a situation where one needs a gun and doesn't have one. Of course, this event is highly unlikely. But, why even make it possible?

State your location on your profile please.

First of all, there is nothing more dangerous than an unloaded weapon. A BB or airsoft gun fits squarely in this category. If you need it, and a BG sees you, you will die a foolish death.

Secondly, both BB guns and airsoft guns, at least in michigan, are considered firearms by law. If you are caught in a gun free zone, i.e. your car, without a permit, you will be given the same charge that you would for illegaly carrying a real firearm.

When you get to prison, you will get your @$$ kicked for general stupidity.

If you want to get used to OC, then do it around the house, and yard. Most importantly, assert and be proud of your rights. Ask yourself, why should the criminals and G men be the only ones to carry? Why should I be afraid to go into certain "bad areas", when it is the criminal that should be afraid to go in mine? Why shoulod I support gun control and the loss of our rights by concealing my weapon? Let the criminals conceal. Why should I keep my rights in my pocket?

LOL Wasn't saying I would do it. Just wondering if it was an option for some people.

As to where I live. I live in owensboro ky. It is in my profile. No idea why it is not showing.

I carry the real thing.

As to Facsimile Firearms around here I am not sure about. I see lots of bb guns, paintball guns and airsoft guns around.

Personally I would not want any one to think I had a real gun when I didn't. I recently started OC. Use to do it years ago and kinda got out of the habit. Just seen that alot of people talk of their fear when they start and wondering if that would be an option. Was not sugesting that people do it. Places like this is where they should be asked and accepted as discussion rather than someone not asking and trying it out in public. Sometimes I just like to start discussion when something pops into my head. I may have asked it but I bet several lurkers have been on here an was afraid to ask. :)

And wow Stainless do they toss peeps in a prison for carrying a fake gun in Michigan? That has to hurt. LOL. Glad I am in Kentucky.

No way.
You would be putting yourself and others at risk by making believe you had a real gun. You can believe that any encounter with a LEO will result in the officers having a very unfavorable opinion of you and what you were attempting to do. (It's better they carry a real gun)
As a retired LEO, I was never bothered by the guns I could see, but anyone 'Acting' caught my attention every time.
I am and have always been in favor of Open carry, but would be suspicious of anyone I saw with a make believe gun.
There are very good repo type fakes on the market, but why would anyone carry them just to see what the reaction would be.
I would first wonder If they were playing with a full deck...
There are officers who either disregard the laws or are not informed about the laws. The easiest way to talk with the officer is before he decides you may be a nut with a water pistol. (JMHO)

I understand where you are coming from. Like I said I wasn't saying anyone should do it.

But I do have to ask. If someone put a fake in a holster and was walking around to get comfortable with it, Not that I would. How would you know they were acting? I would probably assume they were just another oc person and ask them about their weapon. Then become supecious after finding out it was fake.

Lord I am aware of the really good fakes out there. I use to play airsoft several years ago. I have seen some they have out now. They would give me cause for alarm if I saw someone pull one out.

I am not a leo but I have two friends who are. I discussed the same thing with one ofthem. And like you they would not be in favor of it. However they also said that if they was not doing anything to give them cause to approach them they would not bother them. But they do think it would be odd to want to carry a fake weapon when you can legally carry one.

He even went so far as to say the only issues they have had with open carry is the occasional call from someone reporting a mwag which usually amounted to nothing.

However we did have an idiot back in the late 90's who found out open carry was legal. He use to work at the same place I did. He was a security guard and a cop wannabe. Yep you guessed it. He decided he could carry anywhere. Walked into the federal courthouse and when stopped argued with them. Safe to say he no longer carries period.

Moral of that story is. oc may not be for everyone. I love to talk about oc to people. My only fear is talking to someone like him and they not understanding or getting all the facts and thinking they can do whatever they want as long as the weapon is in the open and properly holstered. Sometimes you can't always sense the persons mental state the first time you discuss oc with them.

And on that I just had a thought. What if you discussed oc with someone who approached you when they saw you oc. Then they went and bought a weapon. Went out and was oc and saw a situation they knew nothing about and shot someone. Then in court he says something to the fact that he talked to you and you told em it was ok to oc and shoot someone doing something illegal, (even though you didn't)but they did find out from you they could legally oc.

So the question is. Do you think you would you be openning yourself up to a civil suit from the victims family? Just wanting personal opinions. I know we are not lawyers. I know people can sue for just about anything, whether they win or not is another thing.

We take oc very serious and realized it is a very serious responsibility when we put a weapon on our hip. But where does that responsibility end? Yes everyone who can legally purchase a firearm is allowed to oc. But say you start talking oc to someone who approaches you the say two other people walk up interested. Then someone who you probably would not feel comfortable discussing oc with walks up and starts listening in. Say like the cop wannbe in the story I presented and you just felt like you did not want to be the person that he learned this from. How would you handle the situation? Remeber you are already discussing it with at least two other people.

Yes this person has the legal right just as the rest of us to oc. I myself have met a few cop wannabes. And I can probably safely say that if I said "Yes in Kentucky you can oc, but" I know they would not hear anything I said after that point because they would be off in cop wannabe dream land running around with guns saving the world.

ALso replace the cop wannabe with say someone with anger issues but has never been in trouble with the law for said issues.

I know I would not feel that I was legally responsible if they hurt someone but I would probably feel a bit bad if I knew they hurt someone after learning about oc from me. But that is just me.

Remember this is only for discussion sake. You know how everyone wants to sue these days.

Yep, never let me get bored. I start thinking bout stuff like this to pose to people to discuss. I may not reply back alot but it is interesting to get others to discuss and see how they feel about a subject. I find issues like this are more fun to discuss than what if a BG did this or that, what would you do? Because no one can seriously say what they would do til they actually have to do it. So if I get annoying by bringing stuff like this up let me know.
