Traveling through Indiana

I just registered on here today so I am new here, sorry in advance if this question has been answered elsewhere as I couldn't seem to find a yes or no to my question.

I live in Michigan, and will be heading south in a couple weeks to West Virginia, I will be traveling through the state of Indiana, only stopping for gas/food ect.

I have my Michigan CPL and wondered if I am able to carry concealed in my vehicle, or if I need to carry open in my vehicle? and what are the procedures once I am out of my vehicle?

I tried to find some info on the internet but didn't have much luck. I actually called the Indiana state police, I explained my plans to the person over the phone, they said even though I have a Michigan CPL, I would still have to unload my pistol and separate it from the ammo while in my vehicle?

Thanks in advance for any insight on this, as it doesn't seem like that would be correct.

Indiana recognizes your Michigan permit.

Indiana does not differentiate between open and concealed.

You don't have to unload in your car.

Indiana gun laws are linked below in my signature.

You were clearly misinformed by whomever you spoke to at the ISP. Sadly, they have a history of providing incorrect opinions rather than researching or citing the actual codes. You may carry openly or concealed in Indiana on your Michigan CPL and that includes your vehicle.

(b) Licenses to carry handguns, issued by other states or foreign countries, will be recognized according to the terms thereof but only while the holders are not residents of Indiana.

Thanks for the clarification all, I didn't think he gave me the correct information from what I had gathered from research, but figured I would ask people who actually know lol!

Thanks again.

Indiana is the Original 2nd Amendment State, We recognize everyone's permits from any other state, unless you are an Indiana Resident than you MUST have an Indiana Permit.

I wouldn't go that far. There are several states which require no license/permit whatsoever to carry and many more which only require one to carry concealed.

Indiana's licensing requirement does indeed infringe upon our RKBA but, as you stated, they only infringe on non-residents to the same extent.

Indiana would need to repeal their licensing requirement altogether (as well as a few other statute restrictions) before it could be considered a 2A respecting state.

Even then, it will never be counted "the original" due to the many years it has maintained unconstitutional infringements.

Indiana isn't a traditional open carry state that allows residents and nonresidents to openly carry without a permit, but but the state does honor permits from all other states, so you'll be able to carry while passing through, whether you're in or out of your vehicle.
