There are a whole lot of CHL instructors out there giving out bad info. I think I'd have ended the argument with something along the lines of "I doubt you take medical advice from a school teacher, you shouldn't take legal advice from a police officer".

Handing him an Open Carry flyer would have been a nicer way to tell him he was wrong.

+1

Agree a class (any class) is only as good as the instructor no matter the subject.

DMV is good to go?

I visited DMV this morning to obtain my motorcycle endorsement (YAY!!!). I was openly carrying my Ruger LCR .357 magnum on my side. After receiving the form I needed, I had to return to the receptionist for a pen. A man was speaking quietly to the receptionist (and darn it, I didn't listen as closely as I should have.) He asked her something that I didn't catch. However, I did hear her say something about open carry being legal. She also mentioned CHLs, but as I said, I did not pay close attention to their conversation. I can only assume that the man was concerned or at least interested in the fact that I was carrying my pistol in the DMV. He never did ask me anything about it though. The clerk from whom I obtained my endorsement never said a word either. Bottom line: DMV in Medford, at least, isn't a problem for OC.

Nice!..I need some connections here.

I like your stories, especially when you go places where you're likely to meet the most anti-gunners..like the DMV. I recently decided I want to start OC. I've had my CHL since 2007. In the last 7 years I've moved 3 times and each was in a different county. Multnomah Co.-> Washington Co. -> Clackamas Co. but I haven't OC yet. I'm in Oregon City now. Anyone have any experience with OC here? I know the Clackamas Co. Sheriff should be up on the laws, given they patrol out to Mollala, Estacada, Welches, etc, out away from the city and OC is more common there. Anyone know how the Oregon City Police are?

My wife doesn't care if I CC carry as I do that every Sat/Sun with her no problem. She won't stand for OC because of "how her friends and the public will perceive her and it just not necessary". This is after a few heated discussions and me even trying to quickly hop in the car with her before she sees I am OC...lol. Anyway, for now I will only OC when I'm not with her...until she comes around, hopefully. Then, add the fact that none of my friends CC, let alone OC. Most of them are far left of center politically and live in Portland. So that's why I haven't yet. Id rather OC with others before I do it on my own. I've read all the laws and committed them to memory. So if anyone is ever in the area lets meet up for discussions and OC.

That's a fact. When I took my CHL class about 10 years back the instructor put the fear into us about being CC then having your gun pop out and become visible. He said if you were CC and bent over in a grocery store to get something off the bottom shelf and that caused your gun to poke out from under your coat that you could loose your gun and CHL. Needless to say OC was not on the list of topics. It took a number of years for me to learn the truth for myself.

Several months back I attended a CHL class with my wife. Over all it was very good, but there were some errors about where you can and cannot carry with and without CHL.

Oh yes, I OC'd my Ruger Blackhawk about the house and up on the roof for a few minutes. Baby steps, baby steps.

OC around the campground today then off to the store to get gas. Paid inside and there was a $40 and a $40.01 guy in store said I get the cheaper one because I have a gun. All this while wearing a pink shirt. I'm secure enough in my masculinity to wear pink, and if you have a problem with that I have a gun to back up the man card!

There has to be a valid point here, but it evades me. Surely you are not intentionally trying to violate forum rules.

I would say some people seem kinda thin skinned but that would probably be against forum rules so I won't.
No people, groups, organizations or any such like were bashed, hated, demeaned or anything in my comment from yesterday. I wore a pink shirt for a birthday party for a friend who was celebrating for the first time without her mother due to her dying of breast cancer.

My wife and I were at the Molalla rodeo walking through the vendors and what not and I was wearing my oc XDM.
Had a few look at me and on my way out I was told by a person working parking that he heard on his radio about some guy with a side arm and he knew I had mine and he told me that he was told not to let anyone in with a weapon.
If anyone in security or the local Molalla police were looking for me, they never found me, but I told the guy with the radio that no one could or would have the right to stop me from OCing in or on rodeo grounds for it was legal.
He replied that he knew this.
Went on my way.

Good job, BUT......

It's not always that clear cut. If a private organization has leased the grounds, and it is TRULY a private event (ONE example: not a private entity contracted by local gov't to put on the event), then they can exclude armed individuals. I don't believe it's proper to allow leasing of The People's property and then allow prohibitions on the exercise of rights but that's the current legal status as I understand it.

Had a very pleasant experience the other day. Took my wife to the dentist (Aspen Dental next to Valley River Center), and of course I was carrying. Had one of the surgeons come over and say he was "pleased" to see me carrying, and that he wished more people would.

Checking in

The wife and I took the kids down to corvallis and rode bikes all up and down the path along the river to the skate park and back to a Mongolian place for dinner. No comments, and I wasn't looking to see if anyone else was looking. We had a great time

Haven't posted in a while, same places, no problems, nothing you want to keep hearing about.
But the wife and I test drove a couple of cars at Joe Hayward Ford in Dallas today.
Salesman couldn't care less that I was carrying, never even mentioned it.
Looks like we may be buying another car from there soon.
