Tertiary laws

A sub brings a gun to school. It goes off in his pocket. A student is struck by a fragment.

Sheriff Moon: “Obviously I’m concerned about a substitute teacher bring a gun to school, and what we can do to prevent that in the future.”

It is already illegal to carelessly discharge a firearm and strike somebody as a result. To help “prevent” this, there is a secondary law that makes it illegal to bring a gun into a school. Now they want to “prevent” someone from bringing a gun to school. So, are they going to pass a tertiary law???

If there is a specific behavior that hurts others, such as carelessly discharging a firearm, causing another to be struck, then pass a law against that behavior and be done with it. Passing secondary (and now tertiary) laws to prevent the breaking of primary laws doesn’t stop the breaking of primary laws. It just makes it easier to jail people.

This is a fundamental concept that those who would control us cannot figure out.

Apparently some of the government people whose duties include talking to the media, feel compelled to orate at length regardless of need. Makes it seem (to the dumber among us) like they're DOING something, and they CARE.

I am afraid i would ask a more salient root cause question...why is the district regaled to using Septuagenarians to babysit, er substitute, for 6-7 year oldes in a classroom.

Early dementia NORMALLY affects individuals 65-70 with subtle cognitive processing changes to the individual which those closely associated fail to see or note as problematic. [note discussing dementia, not Alzheimer’s which can only be officially diagnosed by autopsy]

Therefore, this 74yo may have carried his pocket firearm in “holster” for years, dutifully securing it in their vehicle/locker/someplce out of harm’s way, without incident.

Friday, the 74yo got called, out of the blue, to babysit a first-grade class and due to the 74yo’s disrupted schedule, cuz their late, had trouble grooming/dressing/ad nauseam these factors push his cognition capabilities to “tilt” and he forgets to secure his pocket handgun. Then in the middle of the classroom wonders what is this in my pocket, gabs it incorrectly and boom!

As for the good sheriff’s tirades ~ i’m sure he’s a good politician and knows any time they can get their newspeek byte into the public media is always and outstanding opportunity ~ even if what was said was BS.

Hummm, wasn’t even from WHIO ~

Ahhh the chance to use big words.

We already have 3 to 20 different laws addressing the same things. After all , legislators have been passing useless laws , concernig every thing imaginable for a couple of hundred years in an attempt to remain relevant.

Most of which need to be repealed.

Isn't piling-on a permitted political rule?

I am shocked, horrified and disappointed. Oh, the shame of it! Here we have the purest of the pure open carry advocates defending a man that was obviously carrying a concealed firearm. Why not condemn the man for not open carrying? Damn the heretic...and those that support one.

Oh, he should be charged, tried, and convicted of assault (or whatever the crime would be called in Georgia) for discharging a firearm without good cause, causing a student to be injured.

I just loathe the idea that making secondary laws are supposed to prevent primary crimes and the idea that tertiary laws can stop people from breaking secondary laws.

If one is going to carry in a pocket, he should use a pocket holster that covers the trigger guard, and should keep his hand (and everything else) out of that pocket unless he specifically needs to retrieve the gun from that pocket. Even then, he should keep his booger hook off the bang switch unless he justifiably needs to put a hole in something.

Clearly, this genius violated most or all of those very basic precautions, resulting in injury. For that, he should be punished.

One of the advantages of OC is that it is very difficult to do so without a holster and impossible to do inside a pocket!

........snip

Well, that was certainly hard enough to drag out of you and no remorse, at all, from your accomplices to this point.

Excuse me for a question, didn’t this occur in AL not GA that you stated...after that your post is, to say the least tangential jumping subjects like you did.

If I made an error in the State, my apologies.

If my having also opined about pocket carry in response to a post about the perp having concealed carry bothered you as jumping subjects, my apologies.
