Well, my family has been in Rowan County for 200 some odd years since my several great grandfathers ago was patented 1,000 acres out of the KY wilderness in lieu of a pension for his service in the Revolutionary War. We still have a house and some acreage up the holler that was part of the original farm. Haven't made it over there in a few years and spent the weekend there OCing the entire time.

So I was sort of making a checklist of the weekend ...

OC at quick shops from Paducah to Morehead ... check

OC at Walmart, Kroger, Dollar General, quick shops in and around Morehead and a few other places in Rowan County ... check

OC at Cave Run lake Twin Knobs Campground when we stopped to get some information on camping there and to look around the facilities ... check

OC up and down the holler ... check

Get asked by locals I know from 20 something to 80 years old, several of whom are generational family friends, if "that" is legal in KY w/o a permit and joyfully explaining the freedom of KY OC to them ... check

Breathe a sigh of relief at not being confronted at the Morehead Wal-Mart after having read the story posted on OCDO ... check

Have only one person I didn't know say anything about my sidearm and that being a gentleman in Eastern KY at a truck stop who said "Oh, sweet pistol! What brand is that?" and then finding out during a most pleasant and too short conversation that he is retired LEO running for sheriff in the adjacent county ... check

Help my neophyte-shooter mother learn to handle and shoot her new pistol and then watch her proceed to fire 5 other weapons & calibers she had never tried before including her first rifle shots, first .45 ACP and her great-grandfather's .38 revolver that was the first handgun her father or I ever shot ... check

Shoot with the family in the "side yard" (if an 8 acre hay field can be called a side yard") just 50' from the house which beats having to drive to a range ... check

Have friends and cousins from up and down the holler come to visit and bring their own guns and ammo to shoot when they heard us start popping off rounds ... check

Watch my wife put 14 consecutive rounds of .45 ACP out of the new accurized Kimber Ultra Carry II into an 8" target, most in the center 3 rings out-shooting me (hhmmm) the first time she shot that pistol or anything larger than a 9mm ... check

Be reminded of all the reason I love KY and those hills my family settled ... check

Great weekend!!

Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend back "home"!

That is one thing about KY, we do not have much to complain about when it comes to our guns.

I mainly CC due to my work, but when I OC, it's like no one notices, or cares!

I know sometimes things happen, particularly an incident at our local Wal Mart that was related on here some time ago. You just never know when someone is going to say something.

But, come back anytime!

You are right we have great gun laws in KY. That's not an accident. Some people worked long and hard to make it that way. If we don't continue to work it could all slip away. We all need to vote in gun friendly candidates, no matter what party they belong to. We need to challenge any attempt to regulate guns at the local level. We need to actively investigate what our government, local, state, and federal, is doing.
Agreed!
