More details:

That particular Saturday might be plenty hot, seeing as next week's average temperatures are forecasted to be in the 104-107 Fahrenheit range.:(

Called the Scottsdale Gun Club about a group of 4-7 people on that particular Saturday, and the man I spoke to said they should be able to accommodate us for 2 lanes, maybe three with a bit of luck. Maybe the lifting of fire restrictions will stem the flow of shooters going in that Saturday?

Their range fee is $15, but for some air conditioning during the AZ summer, in PHOENIX:p, it just might be worth it. At any rate, the people of Scottsdale are in dire need of OC exposure.:)

Currently looking into local eateries...

There's a really good restaurant I go to almost ritualistically near SGC, K O'Donnells. Good food. Can't OC as though as they serve alcohol. :(

That's rather unfortunate.

I'm sure we can find something by next Monday; I'm browsing through some "reviews" during my free time here in lab.:)

Duel in the desert plans?

Hi All,

What are lunch plans for this Saturday? If there's an event in town, I may decide to stay here rather than running up to Prescott.

cheers,
Peter

"Duel in the Desert" OC lunch details

Who: All OCers, CCers, and assorted Freedom-loving individuals
What: "Duel in the Desert :)p)" OC lunch
When: Saturday, August 16; Range at 11am, Lunch at 1:30 pm
Where: Scottsdale Gun Club, Eatery name and location being sent by PM
Why: Because we can:), and because Phoenix shouldn't have all the exposure;)

I should be easy to recognize, if not by my OCed sidearm alone; details of what I will likely wear are being sent by PM.

NOTE: Anyone else interested in attending may show up to the range. However, if you will only attend the lunch, please PM one of the attendees for the eatery details, as they will not be shared publicly where antis and "murderous antis" alike may read them.
I will check this thread and my inbox at least twice a day until Saturday, and will check again prior to heading out to the range.

Cool! See you there rusty! You will be pleased to know I have not been shooting in a long while. This means you may indeed have a chance at winning in a match up of 45acp's ;)

Only eight more hours til the meet-up!:)

Walk-ins are welcome to meet with us at the range at 11 am, and I'll check this thread and my inbox for any PMs from people who can only make the lunch.

P.S.: New neighbors=new sounds at weird times of the night...

A great time was had by all! Now to the nitty gritty - the match between the lowly hi-point 45 & the Remington stainless 1911 went south quickly :( One of the guns suffered a catastrophic sight failure! Hint it was NOT the hi point. ;) I didn't have the heart to tell rusty hi-points have sight adjustable for both windage & elevation! He will most likely have to have his sight adjusted by a gunsmith.

So technically it was a scratched match. However the HP slung a fair share of rounds into the bullseye no matter who was shooting it. Not bad in my book for a sub $200 gun. Oh by the way - no jams -no FTE - no FTF just as I had predicted. Distances shot 5, 7, 10 yards. All with similar results.

Sorry for posting so late after the match, err, lunch; I had to take a refreshing shower because of how dirty I felt losing with my SPRINGFIELD ARMORY stainless 1911.:p

FreeInAZ proved the point that an un-sexy "brick" with a fixed-barrel can match or outshoot a sexy GI-style 1911.:uhoh:
As for the "catastrophic sight failure," it turns out I wasn't imagining the discrepancy between Point of Aim (POA) and Point of Impact (POI) with my 1911; one shooter is just lack of skill, three shooters is a tendency, but six different shooters is a clue.

A blast was had at the range, a new Hi-Point appreciator was made, great food and service was enjoyed at the eatery, and all-around great time was had by all.

Add.
Wait. It was a SUB-$200 gun?! :cuss::lol:

A fun time for sure. Thanks for arranging it. I'll look forward to the next meetup and hope we get more AZ OCers coming out!
