So I found myself in the Spokane General Store again on Saturday. Having OC in there numerous times without incident.

Was over at the ammo counter talking with a friend when a lady came in to return a pair of binoculars. We ended up having a short discussion, in which she was VERY friendly. Was laughing and joking and asking questions. Turned out she was from Canada so she of course was surprised to see a hand gun and we talked on that matter for a little while before I left.

Turns out, as soon as I left she complained to someone in the store about a man with a gun and none of the General Store employees doing anything about it. So they asked for me to be told that any time I come back in, to just pull my shirt over my firearm. Which for a store that sells ammo, hunting gear, and used to sell a ton of guns themselves (which they are trying to get started again) is hypocritical (much like Sharpshooting).

Despite the fact they have no idea if I have a CPL or not or the potential legality issues, I am not much a fan of being told to pull my shirt over my holster and it wouldn't change a whole lot considering I carry in a Serpa with a Sig P226 and pulling my t-shirt over the holster isn't going to cover more than half of it, and I am going to have a HUGE tumor looking thing as well.

So despite the fun things in the General Store, the nice people and so on, I guess my business there is about done.

That sucks to hear. Did you talk with a manger or just a regular employee?

They had no problems with me or my father handling our weapons while browsing their holsters. Seems like that would be a little more "alarming" than OC. Hopefully you just got an ill informed employee.

The manager told my friend to inform me about covering up from now on. My friend is an employee.

They are fine with you bringing it in a case and than taking it out to check holsters and such. And you are fine to CC. But no more OC as of this weekend.

I have OC'd in the General Store before and no one said anything. I do have some errands to run today so I will stop by.

So it doesn't sound like you've had any official notification from the store to change they way you do anything. I'd just keep OCing in there.

"Tell your friend to cover it up" is a very cowardly way for the manager to deal with it.

I think a manager telling an employee to tell me to cover up is a pretty clear sign they aren't going to welcome me OC in there anymore.

If someone else wants to try it out a few times please do, I don't want to do it and risk my friends position there. I am fine with not giving them any more of my business if that is what it takes, but I don't want to go in there open carrying, get kicked out, and than have my friend yelled at because I did so.

And to fetch, I have been open carrying in there for months, but apparently it just takes one complaint from a two faced, smile at you til you turn your back, canadian to change that.

(I do not have anything against the fine people of Canada. Just this one...)

David, I highly suggest going in to speak with the manager and/or owner of the store. It's much easier to tell someone that's not there to not come to your store than to tell it to the face of the person you're asking not to come back in.

You also would be able to explain the situation as you have here, where he was basing his decision on someone that doesn't even live in this country, much less spend much money in his store... versus yourself, whom I assume does spend a bit of money there.

And just to say it now, since the "CC is okay" was said and it didn't actually come from the manager (not calling your friend a liar), it doesn't really qualify as DNP or Watch List fodder.

I didn't call for it to be added to the DNP list. Just stating my experience over the weekend for anyone else to take as they see fit.

If other people still go in OC and never have a problem than that is great. All I know is I will not be open carrying in the store, and that means I just won't be going in at all. Everyone else can form their own opinion as to what they will want to try/do.

Update: I open carried a full-size USP in the Spokane General Store not once, but twice on the weekend we had the Spokane OC lunch at The Onion.

I purchased some ammunition for the firearm I was currently carrying but the clerk gave me the wrong type. I got to my car and realized the clerk's error so I went back into the store to exchange it. (Normally they don't allow exchanges or returns on ammo.)

I dealt with two clerks at the gun counter, one normal cashier, and the returns / customer service cashier that day. All four employees and several customers noticed my firearm and none of them had anything negative to say. All of the employees were polite and friendly.

Good. +1. Great even.

I am not going to OC in there again without speaking to the man in charge though. But since you had an uneventful event, it at least gives me the urge to go and talk to him about it now.

I spoke with the owner of the general store as well assistant security manager. He said that open carry and concealed carry inside the general store is permitted and that the security officer the David.Car encountered is new and is incorrect and has a hard-on for being a jerk. General Store is okay to carry.

Glad it all turned out OK but it amazes me that a foreigner visiting and taking advantage of our hospitality of our country can manage to create so much turmoil for American citizens in an American store. All this politically correct crap is gotten so far out of hand it has crossed the line into insanity.
IMO the appropriate responce would have been if you don't like it take your worthless money and get your kanok ass back to your commie country. We have no room in a civilized nation for you idiots

Actually last I checked, the Canadian dollar was worth more than the U.S. dollar.
You must not have checked in a long time. US dollar has been higher for last 2-3 months. Right now 1 USD = 1.21 CAD

The Canadian dollar, other than for a few months this past summer, has been lower than the US dollar since the early seventies. About thirty five years, less a couple months this past year.
