I've increasingly seeing more and more people open carrying lately in Desoto County.
Saw guy today, at Old Navy store, nobody seemed to be paying attention to his holstered gun.

i saw a cop in southaven a few months ago and asked him if they had any new training regarding OCers. He hung his head and sadly replied "we were instructed not to ask for ID, permit or anything, basically, leave OCers alone" he said.

Poor thing...it sounds like he needed a hug.

new guy from illinois, lives in hernando

Thats good to hear. I'm prior military, and have been living in illinois for the last 5 years, I'm not yet an official resident of ms, but have bought a house in hernando.

Glad to see you guys' responses for southaven area. I've looked the last few times I've been out but haven't seen anyone carrying. Planning on popping my open carry ms cherry and glad to hear the cops here are behaving properly.

Thanks guys

Go for it and let us know. You'll be pleasantly surprised and somewhat disappointed that no one even notices.

Went to Petco first, everyone was surprisingly friendly and still wanted to spark conversation with me.

Went to lowes and I'd be surprised if anyone even knew I had a .45 on my hip.

Then came walmart in hernando. Got a few stares and one older gentleman who I didn't notice was behind me so I turned around and then apologized for cutting him off. He instantly looked down, refused to acknowledge or make eye contact and instantly pulled out his phone. I leave walmart like 5 minutes later, and as I'm pulling out, 2 cops are pulling into walmart parking lot. No lights or haste, so it could have just been a coincidence. Guess I'll never know.

But all in all, surprisingly well.

Since we are military but not stationed in MS, I can't get my permit til I've been a resident for 12 months, so I plan on getting my Arizona since all I need to do is send a copy of my dd214. So until all that goes through, OC'ing in MS is a non issue and I love being back in the south.

Sorry for the long post, and I know I'm new to the forum, but definitely not new to the cause. Thanks all!
