I understand not wanting to upset the Bday girl/family, but I think I would have refused showing him the CPL since you were OCing and he was not any type of authority to demand squat. This guy needs a lot of education. I would have asked for a refund for my portion, or asked if he would be personally responsible for the security of my gun and my family if I did choose to leave it in the car. Rant complete.
I added a note about not needing a refund. Also, it was either leaving(which I didn't want) or hopefully convince him to let my gun stay. I know he had no authority to see anything. I wish my thoughts were more focused.

I totally understand, I know hindsight is always a little clearer. I've been to a couple of bowling alleys in Lacey/Tumwater OC'ing numerous times while my daughter was on the HS bowling team with not a word said by coaches, parents or owners/management of the alleys. It was so regular I think they would have said something if I didn't show up with a gun.

So me and my son went to the pawn shop in Auburn between 22nd st ne and 24th st ne on Saturday. I cannot remember the name of it, but he wanted some new wii games and we walked in, me oc of course. About 2 minutes in and some lady came up to me asking if it was a real gun and if it was loaded, to which I reply yes to both. She then tells me I cannot carry loaded gun in store. I asked to see the rules or law regarding that. She points me to the front door, on the bottom portion of the glass door, which does read "no loaded firearms". How am I suppose to see that I ask her, then I said oh well guess you will not be getting my money and left. Afterwards we went to my dry cleaners, no issue, Albertsons on 15th no issue then back to home.

Latter my girlfriend and I had a huge talk about open carry and now she feels more comfortable with me oc.

I did buy a new holster from deepconcealcarry.com since the uncle mikes kydex is a little bulky when I have to dress up for work. I should get it by Thusrday and will let you guys know how it works out.

I have a friend that bowls at Paradise and normally open carries. I'll ask him if he carries there. It could be that they don't do anything unless someone complains. That seems to be pretty abundant with business owners.

I went to 7-11 corner gravelly lake and 100th lakewood.

Counter guy says nice piece. I've never seen someone brave enough to just walk around with it out, some people have them under coats when they reach for their bag. But no one just puts it out there. Thats takes balls.. what kind of permit do you have?

I said you don't need one if people can see it. Guy says I wish more people owned guns, maybe that theater shooting wouldn't have happened. Young guy that just came in said yeah cause then you could just Bang Him and it's over... As two other guys standing in line looked like they didn't like the way this conversation was going. I said plenty of people own guns, and hundreds of thousands of people in the area have concealed permits. The problem is if your not one of the "GUN PEOPLE", the vast majority of the people that don't own guns for whatever reason do not take the time to know the laws because they have no interest in it. And alot of Gun owners are complacent to own one just incase, but don't activly live the lifestyle. IE shoot, carry, practice, educate. What good is a gun if you aren't proficient with it. Thats some of the problems with police shootings. I detest and have some family memebers that have a shotgun or rifle thats been past down for generations and sometime along the way it got down to a half a box of shells with 1/4 inch of dust on it all. I've actually met people that own a gun and don't know how to load it... no joke.

Went to Renton River Days today for a couple of hours. Renton PD had the Valldy SWAT vehicle there with a few officers around it, talking to people. They definately noticed my gun on my hip as one of my kids wanted to spray watter from the fire hose that the Renton FD had set up right next to the SWAT vehicle. The police never approached me but I could see that they kept looking back at me.

After that, we walked over a few blocks to go see if Pinto's gunshop was open ( it wasn't) and a small thrift store. On our way back towards the truck we stopped into Ben's Guns and Loans pawn shop, where I found a gun I really wanted and put it on layaway.

Torchlight Parade

My daughter and I went downtown to the Torchlight parade. We were on 4th Ave for about 3 hours, watched the Mayor, Police Chief and others walk by....
It's always a fun parade. I overheard two bike paramedics talking firearms behind me but they never approached me....

Picked up a family member from the Tacoma train station on Friday. One AD Soldier asked about me OCing. I gave him a one of the fold outs. Some looks but no comments. Also OCed at J&S Gun shop in Oly. Of course no issue there.

Very sad day for me today. My dad passed away sometime late to early morning. He was 58 and couldn't take care of himself. Anyways I was getting ready to take kids to park this morning and had strapped my glock to my side. Went to check on my dad to see how he was(he's been sick last 2days) and found him passed away. I call 911 to report it and had the paramedics arrive shortly after still ocing and the auburn police showed up still oc. We had talked for a while and he did notice my gun and didnt say anything about it. Several hours had passed and no words were said. Great but sad day for me.

Sorry for your loss, Husband (LkWd_Don) lost his dad the end of June, we knew his time was coming but could not make it down to California to see him a last time before it happened. We both miss him, so we know part of what you feel. Our thoughts are with you.

The usual places in Yelm this weekend (Wally World, SafeWay, Sunbird). Typically uneventful, except for my visit to Sunbird on Saturday.

Overheard another customer pointing out my firearm to one of the employees in the usual "that guy over there has a gun" manner. Employee proceeds to tell the "concerned" customer that open carry is legal in Washington, and the store owners support it as well. I did not hear the rest of the conversation, but the "concerned" customer ended up leaving. The employee approached me and had a few questions about OC and long guns, since he was under 21. I pointed him to this site (Greenisfaster's under 21 OC thread specifically) and the Washington Gun Rights site as well. A positive encounter all around!

I've never had a problem at sunbird either. I love that place. It's the only place I will buy my work boots. It's good to hear that the owner supports us rather than just being indifferent.

Went oc to the 711 this morning off of 22nd st and auburn way north had a pleasant talk with the clerk. He is definately progun, wishes everyone would carry. When I got home found I had gotten my deep conceal holster. It fits great. Works really well if anyone is trying to carry say on the job and not get noticed. Only issue is taking a bit longer to access but it's there when you need it.

Went for lunch this afternoon in Kent. I was behind a guy and his 2 kids (guy is wearing a fanny pack) as he is paying for his order he has his fanny pack open and I can see a small stainless handgun. At some point the youngest of his group sees me OCing and mentions it to dad who takes a quick look and says to the kid, " yeah, it's not legal." I just smile in his direction as I feel he is one of those guys that I could show him the RCW from the State and he still wouldn't believe it, so no conversation was started plus management and the counter folks see me in here quite a bit and i did not wish to start an issue with the customer.

As I was sitting at my table he would look over and stare, then shake his head.

No one else in the establishment had an issue.

Bad encounter at the Goodwill

So today I was at the Tacoma Goodwill near by the Tacoma Mall. I was there looking for a desk for school this Sept. When the Security Guard came up to me and said "Do I have a CPL?". I responded I don't need one to OC and he said " WA isn't a OC State." I told him it was under state law and he said no only police and Security Guards can OC in uniform ( He didn't have a gun). I ask him then what law prevents OC in WA. He ask If I going to CC and I said no. He left saying he is going to make a call ( I presume to the police). I continue on shopping and bought a desk. During the rest my time there he didn't come back and the police never showed. So should I write a compliment to Goodwill?

I would. The guy is making guesses/forcing his opinion and unfortunately it has to do with something that could end pretty badly. If he is going to approach people like that then he should actually take the time to learn the law.

Whenever I see somebody wearing a fanny pack I just assume they are armed. Same with the guys wearing the "shoot me first vest". Especially when it is sagging on one side because they are using the built in cc pocket in the chest.

Often they are armed and have a baggy of something else in there too......not that I have a problem with that.

well nothing to exciting friday night. made a trip into walmart here in yelm, ran into the guy i deal with over at county line guns, he said they are having trouble getting ahold of all types of ammo so stock up.

somebody actually noticed i was carrying this time, first time in a long time really. on my way out to the car a couple young guys were walking past and one of them said "you ever get to use that?" i said "hopefully never for anything other than targets, i do not put on my seatbelt when i get into my car because i want to have an accident, its there in case i need it".

and that was about it.
