The bottom line is that concealed carry without security at the entrance is a poor substitute for effective security measures that screen potential risks.
According to this guy we need metal detectors at the entrance of the:
  • grocery store
  • laundromat
  • dry cleaners
  • hardware store
  • department store
  • furniture store
  • etc.

Because it bothers me to see somebody making their living using the English language so poorly, look at the end of the third paragraph of the OPs link. The writer states:
Two members of the church were killed by Kinnumen (one of them carrying a firearm) before Kinnunen killed.
"before Kinnunen killed"? Really? Should be "before Kinnunen WAS killed."
That being said, he is entitled to his opinion, as is everybody. I just don't happen to agree with it.

Writers do not have editors anymore. And surely none of us have an editor to proof read our postings, but we are not publishers.

James Jackson Kilpatrick was the last real editor, and he passed away in 2010. He has been disappeared for being a segregationist and conservative. I read him avidly and briefly met him at a working breakfast of the local newspaper’s de facto board of experts.

for more interesting to hear about ansel...

Seems according to NSSF 6 Jan 20 post bloomie doesn't agree:

“I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven I’m not stopping to be interviewed,” Bloomberg said in 2014. “I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It’s not even close.”

Billionaire Michael Bloomberg is stumping on the presidential campaign trail telling Americans they can’t be trusted to exercise their right to own a gun.

Not for self-protection. Not for recreational shooting or hunting. Not even because it’s a God-given right enshrined in the Bill of Rights.

He says this, of course, surrounded by an armed security team. They’re not armed with lollipops and wishful thoughts. They’re carrying the cold steel that the guy who writes the checks for Moms Demand Action and Everytown says Americans can’t be trusted to own.

No Guns for You
It sounds disturbing enough. It’s even more disturbing that Bloomberg made this announcement after hearing the news of Jack Wilson, a concealed carry permit holder and member of the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas. Wilson responded immediately to the threat of a murderer in his church and neutralized the threat just six seconds after it began. His swift reaction in just six seconds saved countless lives among the 242 worshipers in attending services that morning when the police standard to response is six minutes.

“It’s the job of law enforcement to have guns and to decide when to shoot,” Bloomberg explained at a campaign stop in Montgomery, Ala. “You just do not want the average citizen carrying a gun in a crowded place.” unquote.

Oh dougie, might call your friend bloomie, you have hosted or carried or entertained bloomie haven't you?

He has been disappeared because he was mean to Shana Alexander...and kept calling Jane an ignorant *%#@.

He was neither a segregationist nor a conservative...as we in South Cackalacky define those terms...but, he did enjoy the South, of which Virginia was his preferred part of the South.

...it's a Southern thing.

A sad commentary on our times. That is one of the reasons I proof-read every post I make before I post it. Having had a teacher for a parent keeps me mindful of my grammar as well. One particular phrase that too many of us use incorrectly is where we say that "we have got to ---" and mistakenly mix past and future tenses. Or, ending a sentence in a preposition - "That's what I'm thinking of." Almost every day, there is a commercial or news program on and I hear something and just wince at how they have mis-stated something.
I have my share of mistakes as well but I try and catch them before they get away from me.

I proof read legal briefs on a regular basis. And what bugs me is that no matter how careful you proof read you will miss something. Also, the past, present and future mixed in the same sentence, and making singular plural and plural singular.

Americans hate our American-English grammar. I imagine that we boomers were the last generation to whom (him:whom) grammar was even attempted to be taught. I just looked up in my bookcase and did not see a book devoted to grammar.

Here is the nearly 300 page text of Old Norse grammar. This is an ancestor language to English. The Old Norse used every grammar option ever imagined. Modern Icelandic uses most of them.

Studying Viking / Old Norse language, I am amazed by the changes just in my language. I remember being drilled, admittedly by a speech therapist, on W’s pronunciation. One’s cheeks should puff pronouncing WHat, WHen, WHere. It should not be said Wat, wen (making when sound just like a wart), were (sounds like wear).

I have also had to learn the letters’ names dropped from our modern alphabet: thorn, eth, the ogonek, and ash. The runic ‘alphabets’ are the elder and younger futhark or fuþark after their first six characters, their ABC’s. (Now lets see how this displays)
  • ᚠ fé ("wealth")
  • ᚢ úr ("iron"/"rain")
  • ᚦ Thurs ("giant")
  • As/Oss
  • ᚱ reið ("ride")
  • ᚴ kaun ("ulcer")
  • ᚼ hagall ("hail")
  • ᚾ nauðr ("need")
  • ᛁ ísa/íss ("ice")
  • ᛅ ár ("plenty")
  • ᛋ sól ("sun")
  • Týr
  • ᛒ björk/bjarkan/bjarken ("birch")
  • ᛘ maðr ("man")
  • ᛚ lögr ("sea")
  • ᛦ yr ("yew")

I have McGraw-Hill's Handbook of English, second edition, taking up space on my book shelf. I actually use it on occasion. Schools don't teach diagramming of sentences anymore.

sorry dougie...sesame street wasn't around nor was phonics, tried to learn French, Turkish, Deutsche, Farisi, Afrikaans, Arabic or NC southern drawl, and discerned mid-life...
1. i cannot spell worth a tinker's damn
2. i cannot master english, or any other bloody spoken language, especially the NC drawl
3. i cannot tell if my participle is dangling nor care if i use "can" in place of "may" as i ask to leave the room for a potty break
4. i haven't the time nor inclination to correct # 1 or 2 or 3 above

therefore, i nominate whomever invented the language translate pocket book and as well invented the spell checker for computers individually or as a group, for Nobel prizes for enhancing the world's population to comunicate!

I believe Big Bird as well as Mr Rogers would both appreciate the gesture.

ps: oc for me ~ I's rite cheer bro...

Stephen Bryen is actually correct. Carry in church is not the be all end all of making it safe. As he says in his last sentence-- And guns inside holy places by themselves are not a guarantee of security. It is widely recognized as a major deterrent and substantial factor in casualty reduction efforts.

Cameras, watching closely and armed guards were not sufficient to prevent that church shooting. All are factors, all are good steps, none are by themselves enough. The only thing good enough for that is to lock the door and everyone stay home.
