Shoreline High School Campus forbids guns

A little background: Back when my parents were in high school, the Shoreline school district operated one single ginormous high school. They eventually broke up the population of the school into several smaller high schools, most of which are still operating to this day. The school district still owns the property, and uses the old school buildings for various things. Meeting halls/convention center, senior center, daycare, the stadium there hosts sporting events, etc.

I was there a couple months ago, and noticed a sign in the window of the senior center, referencing an RCW and stating that it is illegal to possess a firearm on the premises. The RCW in question is 9.41.280, but the old Shoreline High School campus is not being used exclusively as a public or private elementary or secondary school. I pointed out that the sign is wrong to the receptionist, and went on about my day. About a week ago, I was walking by, and saw the sign was still there.

I haven't had a chance to dig up contact information for the facility management yet, but a sign claiming that a senior center is an elementary school seems wrong to me somehow. :p

facility management could give a rat's behind...

Difdi, i believe you will discern the shoreline senior center you believe is still associated w/the olde high school/education complex is actually the shoreline-lake forest park senior center an entirely new entity and coupled with multiple other senior centers in the immediate area. http://shorelinelfpseniorcenter.org/

best of luck in your endeavor(s) dealing with receptionists and facility management getting this resolved as i believe you will ascertain some time along the way mgmt decreed the facility a GFZ - told someone to buy a sign, they did, wrong one apparently, and the wrong sign will come down and a new an improved 'no firearm' sign will take its place.

bottom line, someone in control doesn't want firearms in/on their senior center premises.

It's times like this that I wonder why you even bother posting here, given your anti-gun stance.
Decidedly - neither one of you are anti-gun/self-defence.

Grape ya i am an anti just like you are shy and reserve...

but i personally can't get excited over someone's dismay about a photocopied sign stuck in an olde - no longer used as an educational building (different from the thread's title), apparently given to the city to use as a senior center when the poster's high level of concern from initially noticing of said sign is spread over quote several months unquote and who is maybe, perhaps, could be going to visit facility management to get the issue resolved in lieu of talking to someone, senior citizen center director, or perhaps the town manager.

the OP, who is in the community per se, didn't seem to have researched the local community's ordinances to see if they have the authority to institute a GFZ within their community nor didn't mention the building is apparently attached to a municipality.

tell ya what, i will phone shoreline senior center's director, president, board members, as well as the shoreline municipality manager tomorrow and ask some questions to discern why someone photocopied and posted a no gun sign in the senior center!!

that is unless decklin, or the OP or even mcbride, want to call first!!!

How about putting on your blue Dickies® work pants, shirt and hat with a name tag "BOB" and with a bucket of water and squeegee doing your good deed and wash the windows. You can't help during the process the sign gets washed off.

Please for the grace of God, when you call, you wear your blue Dickies® work pants, shirt and hat with a name tag "BOB." Wearing the proper dress is critical when negotiating.

Well, given that I posted in the Washington forum because, you know, the facility in question is in Washington...I already know the validity of any city ordinances that create a GFZ in a public building. The fact that it references state law incorrectly is a big hint too.

so tell me difdi, have you called center director especially since you are in WA?

you are complaining about the incorrect reference or the fact the senior center has a no gun sign? if the former...really?

ipse

apparently too early for him as 'he will be in later this morning'...
