A permit to walk down the damn sidewalk???? Outrageous!!! Not ONLY is that a violation of the Constitution, but also a glaring restriction on human rights! And what do we do WHEN the City Council denies the permit???

And again, I ask this. I've read through their idiotic ordinances and, though it be glass half empty thinking, I fully expect their city council to deny the permit. So then what? Do we just throw up our hands and say oh well we tried?

No. I say screw their unjust laws.

By denying us the permit (really, by requiring one in the first place) they've thrown out the First Amendment on their way to trampling on the rest of the Constitution. I say we have our march, and have the Michigan State Police on speed dial, and should the RPD try to ticket, detain or arrest us we call the MSP in and have the RPD arrested.

DeSchaine, do not count on the MSP enforcing laws against other cops, even though they are generally a very trustworthy agency. The thin blue line sincerely hates to take out its trash. If this is how Pat wants to do it, I see no reason not to give it a chance the one time, especially now that it has already been put into action. We have to pick and choose what rights we are going to fight for in this day and age of the bill of rights being trampled, and it would definitely seem we specialize in guns.

I've said from the very beginning and I am still saying now it's not like we are limited to one event. Realistically, if they deny the permit, it will be time to go to the council arts beats and eats/Birmingham style, which would by all means convey the same message as a march, and perhaps to swamp the city with mini events. Whatever the eventuality, now is not the time to get worried about it, not until this round has played out.

Glad someone gets it :)

Well if they deny the permit (80+%) they will, as it will be presented as "a bunch of gun nuts want to roam our streets". Sadly most city council's in that area are made up of yes men. They won't do the research to find out that this is about many things including: racism by police, denying freedom of speech & expression, denial of the right to self protection.

I hope along with them (council & mayor) that their future opposition is watching this thread. As Romulus has a large minority population, their voting for denying them rights should be a nice coffin nail in their campaigns come re-election time.

Agreed. That is always an option if needed.

Personally I am pretty confident that the permit will be approved. But if not, as has been stated here, there are other options.

Pat grabbed the cards, and now he can play them. No purpose in worrying about it for now. I am at least hopeful that the permit will be issued, and that no further events will be needed in Romulus after this as far as gun rights go, but obviously that is up to the council and PD.

If it is not issued I would suggest that we go to the city council and take them to task for it.

FYI, this just received from Pat Dunbar:

Romulus mayor just called. Based on my meeting with him an IA investigation has been started.

Parade permit is expected to be approved within a week from now.

Is that when the event is? So very close to the Lansing event?

I don't see a problem personally. The Lansing event is on a Tuesday, that means that most people have to take the day off to attend, not everyone can do that. This event is on a Sunday so more people can attend, including those that can't get Tuesday off. Also, the Lansing event is being hosted by at least 4 groups, not just one group for the Romulus event.

The problem as I see it is that now someone in my area who has limited funds might have to choose which event to go to. If I had to drive to both I am not sure that I could afford the gas.
However the decision seems to have been made.

What difference is it if they are two days apart or two months apart? You still have to make the trip twice.

If you would like to get yourself to Lansing, you can carpool with me to Romulus.
