No, I'm not planning on running the marathon armed lol but I am manning a water station so I'm wondering if I should go armed. What do you guys think? The station is obviously on public property, but wouldn't Zappos have the say so since they are using the roads and streets for the event? In this case I'm thinking I should just save myself the hassle and leave it locked in the car. What do you guys think?

What "public property" is the station on? Are you thinking of carrying concealed, or open? If you open carry there may be objections and if there are you will have to decide how to deal with that. If you carry concealed, unless the water station is in a "public building" (i.e.; a government building) with signs at every public entrance, you are legal and concealed is concealed.

I wouldn't do it if I couldn't be armed.

I understand the not wanting to cause a scene, depending on the crowd and activity, and the inability/unwantingness to educate people at the time. This is when CCW in their ignorance can help, if you have a permit.

But if the gun is locked in the car, it's because I am, too.

The tables will be on 4th street south of charleston. Not exactly an area of town id like to be after dark without a way to protect myself.

This is not a "public building" and cannot be restricted by law. If you have a permit - carry concealed - and don't worry about it. I would (and do - everyplace I go that I am not in violation of law.

Just cuase you asked...its public area, open cary, i wanna know what happens and i've been entertaining friends in town just for the marathon this weekend.

I was downtown last night open carry on fremont with 2 friends from out of state and they were a lil bewildered by it. All the freaks out on the downtown, only one we went up to was a half naked cowboy and I engaged him and said 'how can a cowboy have a whip and no gun?' and he said 'they wont let me. I immiately shifted so he could see my 3 o clock and said they can't stop it. It was funny - took a picture with my friend (female) and was all 'howdy mam, much abliged' and then while talking to me drpoped character and was like 'i have my ccw and carry for bodyguard work on the side'

I tried letting him know that downtown there's nothin keeping you from protecting yourself. I even saw other 'performers' with fake guns (couple gal cops twirling their mock 1911's around their fingers in a COMPLETELY unsafe manner lol).

I think for halloween a law was passed no fake guns on strip or some such

I have been absent from this forum a while, sorry if this was covered a bit. This guy tho broke his cowboy character immidately upon talking to a 'real person' and it was hilarious. he was like - 'i do bodyguard work on the side, and i carry, but they tell me i can't down here on fremont'

he thanked me for my info when leaving. gonna also post this on the 'how today went thingie thread' since i haven't in a while

So everything went smoothly except for a few encounters at the 7-11 on 4th and Charleston (I will post my experience in the where did you carry thread). I was aproached by another volunteer and was asked if I was part of the OC movement. I didn't quite know how to answer, but after talking with him for a few minutes I found out that he was CC. It was a good experience all around and I'm surprised that with all the police down there I didn't get talked to once. Not even so much as an ackowledgment. Which is in all actuality is a good thing.

Good question. I like that I respond with "No, I'm not part of any movement, and neither are most people who carry openly." We just happen to carry openly, and if that educates people, great.
