Needed to facilitate some changes to my SSI details yesterday so stopped by, being aware of federal protocols, entered unarmed & w/o cellphone ~ noticing with interest nothing posted on the door(s) about anything prohibited or special instructions, e.g., weapons or cellphone usage, etc.

walked in, no usual guard at desk, oh there he is entering the empty lobby from other side of the room, walked directly to machine to enter my info to get my "ticket" to see someone, and heard in a loud voice from behind me state..."you don't have any guns, knives, your cellphone must be...' darn forgot my pocket knife...without a word turned from the machine and walked out the door to my vehicle and took my three inch clipped-to-the-inside-of-my-pocket knife off putting in the door pocket.

walked back inside to the machine to continue entering my info and heard the loud voice state...'what did you take out?'; i continued poking the machine and heard...'you have to tell me as i have to report it.'; continued to ignore the rant as i tended to the machine's questions and then heard...'you know it's a federal offence, a felony, to bring prohibited...' i quit listening, grabbed the machine's proffered ticket and sat down in the empty lobby awaiting a rep to call me back into the inte-sanctuary to get my business done.

rent-a-cop was just sitting there muttering to himself.

for an empty lobby took 6 minutes to be seen 4 minutes to fix my issue ~ longest time spent was the rep couldn't get my SSN into the system correctly...

looking for proper channel to see whom shall receive a formal complaint...

Well now that you have admitted that you had a high precision folding tool in your pocket while in a federal facility negates your right to evoke plausible deniability.

P/S

I don't see where cell phones are prohibited.

I also can't find a SS regulation that disallows cell phones.

More and more hearing-aids are controlled by an app on cell phones. Denying the phone would be a violation of the American with Disability Act.

au contraire mon ami...quoth your cite on bottom of page 3:

The FSC, DO, or appropriate legal authority may prohibit items that might otherwise be permitted into the facility from being allowed in certain portions of that facility or by certain individuals or groups. An example of this would be a court restricting the general public from possessing a cell phone in a court room but permitting such a device to be carried by a court employee or an attorney.

btw kudos for the cite...

notice with interest no mention of signage or how john q citizen is to be aware of these entry point prohibited articles!

[sidebar...facilities must have written exemptions for having prohibited items in use by employees, say scissors???]

Nothing like a misleading example. The chief judge has jurisdiction over federal court houses.
