Since I'll be returning to Colorado for the Cherry Creek OC-BBQ in May, I'm also arranging time to go camping with some old friends up in the mountains and I'm having trouble deciphering certain parks codes on legal vs illegal places to shoot. We were looking at Rampart Range up in Pike's National Forest, but two different "closure clauses" seems to have left huge chunks of area shooting free zones.

Anyone here have first hand experience in this area or another area within a few hours reach of Denver?

Up in Buena Vista there is a BLM campspot known as Railroad Bridge. There are a couple washes that we pop rounds at during the summer. Haven't had any issues with the rangers....yet...

But that is a bit of a drive from Denver...There is the old scout camp on the south side of Idaho Springs. Way back in the woods. I used to prospect up there til some asshat started hipshotting lead all over the place with a lever action. I hope he caught a ricochet...
