Hi everyone. I am 18 years old and I have a PP/Carry Permit in the state of NC. (Mecklenburg County) Now, can I travel with my handgun in my vehicle through SC, GA, AL, and FL? I am going on vacation and driving at night and would rather have my gun on me while I drive in the middle of the night. Thank you.

first, welcome to OC

second, there is no 'PP/carry' permit for < 21 in the state of NC ! ! so not sure what you are on about or what magical Doc Who document you have you feel proves in or out of state reciprocal coverage.

glad that misconception is cleared up.

now what those 18 ~ 21 can do in the tarheel state is OC ONLY on their person and in their vehicle! your firearm must be open for God and Country to see at all times. or as has been recommed many times locked up in a secure container outside of drivers reach to preclude and misunderstanding during nice LE encounters along the side of the road.

now in your vehicle, NC does not specify how a firearm is carried in the vehicle, but 'officer safety' is paramount and the nice LEs push that concept to the hilt.

might search for NC Attorney general's pdf on firearms as it is an excellent reference.

finally, unsless the entire group of LE & Sheriffs in Mecklenburg county have changed, the county is historically not a OC friendly area for beaten up adults, let alone 18-21 yos carrying individuals, so be careful and anticipate harassment and remember to be polite, yet firm, during those encounters. those topics you will find scattered amongst the threads of this forum.

Note that NC does not issue permits for open carry; in many other states you must have a permit of some kind to carry, whether OC or CC.

Snippets.

Georgia:

Note: No Permit License Is needed to carry the firearm inside your Motor Vehicle either openly or concealed.
Note: The GA Court of Appeals ruled in (Hubbard v. State, 210 Ga. App. 141, 143-44 1993) that if you do not have a permit/license honored in GA you can only carry a firearm in “Your Own Vehicle.” This means you can carry in “Your Own Vehicle” without a permit/license but if you are riding in a vehicle that is not yours you must have permission of the person who has legal control of the vehicle.

Alabama:

RV/Car Carry Without a Permit/License
You must have a Permit/License to carry a loaded handgun in any vehicle.
Alabama Code 13A-11-73(b) Except as otherwise prohibited by law. A person legally permitted to possess a pistol, but who does not possess a valid concealed weapon permit, may possess an unloaded pistol in his or her motor vehicle if the pistol is locked in a compartment or container that is in or affixed securely to the vehicle and out of reach of the driver and any passenger in the vehicle.
____________________________
A person may lawfully transport a firearm, including a handgun, from one state in which they are legal to possess to another state without a permit as required under Alabama law, provided the following conditions are met:
 The firearm is unloaded.
 Neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle.
 In case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver's compartment, the firearm and ammunition shall be in a locked container other than the glove box or console. Title 18 U.S.C. section

926A Open Carry (Without a Valid Permit/License)
Open Carry is legal in Alabama. Places as listed in the “Places Off Limits” above apply to those who open carry. Vehicle Carry is not permitted unless you have a valid Permit/License to Carry a Handgun. See the “RV/Car Carry Without a Permit” section for carrying in a vehicle.
The state preempts all firearm laws in the state and local authorities can’t have Laws/Ordinances against open carry. Remember that if you enter any property and the owner/responsible person ask you to leave you must leave. Failure to leave can result in Trespass Charges. The Minimum age for Open Carry is 18.

13A-11-7
(6) (c) It shall be a rebuttable presumption that the mere carrying of a visible pistol, holstered or secured, in a public place, in and of itself, is not a violation of this section.

Florida:
RV/Car Carry Without a Permit/License
790.25 Lawful Ownership, Possession, and Use of Firearms and Other Weapons
(5) Possession in Private Conveyance.--Notwithstanding subsection (2), it is lawful and is not a violation of s. 790.01 for a person 18 years of age or older to possess a concealed firearm or other weapon for self-defense or other lawful purpose within the interior of a private conveyance, without a license, if the firearm or other weapon is securely encased or is otherwise not readily accessible for immediate use. Nothing herein contained prohibits the carrying of a legal firearm other than a handgun anywhere in a private conveyance when such firearm is being carried for a lawful use. Nothing herein contained shall be construed to authorize the carrying of a concealed firearm or other weapon on the person.

Open carry is not legal in Florida.

Don't carry concealed in Va. Your permit will not be recognized. From whatever state. Or any state.

You can open carry, but be careful. Age will likely be an issue from some but not other LEOs here.
