I have read so much over the last 3 days about open carry in Georgia. I used to live there and am about to move back. I never knew you could open carry in so many states. I have a CCW in Florida right now. Okay to my question, I cant find a statue in Georgia that specifcally says you can open carry, its all about concealed. So am I to assume that the reason we are able to open carry in Georgia is the fact that there is NO law Against it. Or is there a statue i cant find or havent seen that gives us the right. Also someone that open carries please clear this up for me. It seems that on some post and forums people are confused, which in turn confuses me about the fact Georgia has a GFL. That is your equivalant to my CCW in Florida, right? With your GFL, that is your license to carry either concealed or open. Some people have been saying that you need two licenses, one to carry concealed and one to carry open or that once you get you concealed you can only carry concealed. That doesnt make sense to me though. When I move back to Georgia, I will go get my GFL and that will be it right, I can carry concealed or open? You can probably see my confusion. Thanks alot, Matt.

You pretty much have it right there. You won't find a statute specifically stating that Open Carry is legal, just as you won't find a statue stating that eating a Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato sandich is legal. Laws tend to prohibit things, not specify that a thing may be done.

The Florida CCW is the same as the Georgia GFL, except that you aren't required by statute to conceal in Georgia. I believe FL has reciprocity with GA, so if you come over to visit you can carry openly should you wish.

Come on over to GeorgiaPacking.Org and introduce yourself sometime :)

Someone saying that once you have a concealed permit, you cannot carry openly is like saying that once you have a Driver's Permit you are no longer allowed to ride a bicycle or to walk, but must always drive your car.

Dangit, that was supposed to be an Edit, not a Quote. Oh well, a little post-who**ing never hurt anyone.

there is only one license in GA, i open carry everyday. where you moving too? im in glynn county. unlike your CCW from florida our GFL only allows the carry of firearms so knives etc are illegal unless open(and there carry is not preempted like guns)
