"... a concealed handgun licensee is only required to present the license or verbally notify a police officer once requested to present their driver’s license upon being stopped by an officer for a law enforcement purpose. By clarifying this disclosure requirement, it gives motorists a clear set of steps to follow when stopped by law enforcement. "

a query, is the purpose of this passed statute aimed at qualifying response to the nice LE(s) when a carrying citizen clarification of protocols to announce there is a firearm on board a vehicle or an inquiry of why a citizen is carrying?

does it apply to CC or OC carrying?

thanks, for your guidance to this gentleman about a new point in the Buckeye's carry statutes.

The bill has only passed the Ohio House, it has not yet become a part of Ohio law - and may not. The bill as originally introduced would have completely repealed the requirement to notify law enforcement. OFCC and other Ohio gun rights groups are continuing to fight for a complete repeal.

To answer your inquiry, if it does become law in its current form, a licensee that is carrying a concealed handgun or has a loaded handgun in a motor vehicle must notify a LEO that he has a license and is armed when the LEO asks for identification.

This would represent a change in Ohio law which currently requires a licensee that is carrying a concealed handgun or has a loaded handgun in a motor vehicle to "promptly" notify a LEO that he has a license and is armed when "stopped for a law-enforcement purpose".

thanks just a shooter, would emails to legislature be of value? en mass or are there a few selective lawmakers to hit?

NC statutes has nothing in place regarding this subject per se, but NC DoJ guidance put out during citizen's CC training and ad hoc information to those OC'g citizens is 'Officer safety is paramount' so it is imperative for citizens to immediately notify the nice LE in the 'accomplishment' of their official duties the citizen is carrying a firearm. this DoJ guidance also applies to others within the vehicle.

again, certainly appreciate the clarification...let me know re the email campaign would be beneficial.

Ohio requires a CC to carry loaded in a motor vehicle. The bill was hijacked by the antis. And yes, Ohio has a lot of RINOs. State Rep Bill Seitz is a neighbor of mine. He is a sponsor of the bill, but like the other sponsors won't withdraw their sponsorship when it was radically modified.

You are quite welcome. I do not believe an email campaign would be beneficial at this time. We are currently working on the Senate side to get the original language inserted into another pro-gun bill or to have HB142 amended back to its original language. I do appreciate the offer, and may take you up on it if the situation warrants it.
