I personally open carry everyday in Alabama
And have not once had a bad encounter.
I'm from Florida for the past 13 years where as many
Of you know isn't an open carry state and is very hot tryin
Conceal your weapon especially when you have an outdoor type
Job. Anyway I open carry 24 hours a day and go from Jasper to
Montgomery in a complete circle thereof because of the type
Of work I do (property preservation-home foreclosures) so I go
Into a variety of towns, businesses and banks, restaurants and
So forth and I was wondering what others were experiencing.

Been open carrying here in Montgomery for some time now and have had only one negative experience. Female manager kicked me out of Wal Mart on Atlanta Highway. District manager was contacted. Female manager no longer works there and district manager, when I encountered him several days later in the store, apologized profusely for the store manager's actions and attitude.

Law enforcement here, county and city, are pretty well educated about open carry thanks to eye95.

Carried at the Morrow County Fair today where we had a problem with illegal signs. Thanks to BriKuz and MWSY, that is fixed, and so our day at the Fair was blissfully uneventful.

Oh, wait, that was in Ohio! I miss Alabama, but Ohio is providing a new set of challenges. Fairborn, my new home, had some signs banning Firearms in the parks. A mention on OCDO and some emails, and the signs were fixed in 24 hours. I was bragging on that to someone in Central Park during a jazz festival. A lady tapped me on the shoulder and announced that she was the Director of Parks. She asked me that, if we were ever to do that to her again, to please not do it during her busy season. Kudos to her for rapid response.

Keep up the good work in Alabama, and I will keep on keepin' on here in Ohio.

Your so right , Alabama is a great state to open carry in except for the car carry law. Oh well I do have my state infringement permission slip though. I never conceal carry anymore, that's such a headache.

First encounter with LEO

My wife and I took a ride and stopped in a town called Warrior Alabama at a Citgo to get some fuel. went to the counter to pay when a Worrior PD came in. Now standing in line with officer behind me when he asked me "What do you do" as in am I a LEO or something, I answered that I am in homeforeclosure preservation. Then he made the statement that "The City of Warrior has a ordinance of Prohibitation on Open Carry". At that point I stated that Alabama has a State Pre-emption on firearms and the city is in violation of Alabama Law. He made a statement something in the effect that Warrior is NOT under States rule and whats the point if a city can't make it's own municipal laws.
Anyway he told me just to cover it up and have a nice night because he wasn't going to arrest anybody for open carring but some officers will.
The problem most of all with this was he was training a intern who was standing there listening to this cop and his lack of knowledge on the law of how knows what......You just can't fix stupid.

And you, because you chose not to summon a superior on the spot, allowed him and the trainee to maintain their ignorance.

And YES, in this case you can fix stupid.

As eye95 said, call the Chief and see what he has to say. If he tells you he will take care of it, tell him you would like a copy of the training materials that either a) were ignored, or b) don't currently exist, but clearly need to be created. Tell him you'd also like the documentation showing who attended the training. If he tells you "Bite me!", then it's time to get all your facts together, find out who the officers were whom you spoke with, and sign up to speak at the next city council meeting on the subject of Warrior's uninformed police department.

One suggestion, and I mean this in a helpful way: if you're going to communicate by e-mail or letter to any party, make sure you check and double-check your spelling/grammar/punctuation. Your post has a number of such errors in it. Like it or not, your communications will carry more weight when the reader can't laugh or shake his head at glaring errors in your writings.

Carry everyday just about all day long. Work, shopping, etc. Never been stopped or even questioned. No reason for it either as I conduct myself lawfully, civilly, and politely representing open carriers well. Wish I had a colorful story to tell, but thankfully it's been very boring.

Open Carry In and Around Birmingham

When I come home on leave from NC I open carry just like I always do. I particularly like to open carry in Birmingham where all of the liberal hippies like to congregate. I have had quite a few people come up to me and ask me if I was a policeman or something. Usually I tell them no I am a Marine and sometimes I just tell them no I am just a regular old civilian. Last time I was down I OC'ed at the Summit, Galleria, and a few other places. Also OC'ed at the Bass Pro in Leeds with no problems.

Welll.... Cops up in Warrior just be lettin' all sorts of criminals walk around, don' they?
Here's a clue, although I'm sure you've already guessed...

When a cop tells you "That's against the law, I'ma not gonna arrest ya, 'cause I'm such a nice guy, but some other cops aren't as nice as me and they'll throw ya' in the pokey..", there's better than even odds that the cop is blowin' smoke up your fourth point of contact.

If I have heard that line of BS once, I've heard it a dozen times and each and every time the fine gentleman of the law was mistaken as to the fact of the law. They know it, I know it, and you know it.

Anyone think he tells people, "It's against the law to rob a bank, but I need to get home to my steak dinner" or "Son, you can't be drivin' around with no tag on your truck, I'ma just gonna let it go this time but some other cop may give you a ticket for it"?
