Usually not one to be a member of the etiquette police, so maybe yall can put me in my place here.

Was at our local Platt electrical supply house on Friday up on Canyon Rd in Puyallup. Open carrying customer was at the counter, while we waited our turn. The gentleman was obviously not well versed in the trade (electrical) and was giving Hell to the store manager, who was unable to understand what the customer wanted, as he was asking for parts by anything other then their name.

The guy was pretty boisterous, and rude. I really felt for the manager who remained calm during the exchange, though obviously frustrated. When he left, we all had a pretty good laugh, and per usual, I dont believe anyone my son included, noticed that he was OC.

My point is, I was a bit embarrassed that the Open Carry community as a whole would be represented, intentionally or not, by an individual whose behavior was less then admirable. Whether or not he was a member of this forum, a regular OC advocate, or just OC in light of the Corona thing going on, I dont know.

I would just like to offer this up as how others may percieve us as we are out and about doing our daily business while OC. We are all ambassadors to the public, so our behavior and mannerisms can dictate how opinions and emotions about OC are derived.

If by chance the individual is a member if this forum and reading this, please do not think of this as a personal attack, but perhaps as a friendly hello and nudge.

if the guy was CC and acted as such, would you still have the same opinion and judgement?
I understand what you mean by saying "representing the OC community" but does he have to hold back being who he is just because he is OC?

We are who we are and no one will react the same. If we leave CC or OC out of human behaviors, it is just that, we are human and we all react differently and have no reflection if with OC or CC.

Did his behavior violate any law or did it just offended you? No one should have to change who they are because they are OC, as long as no law has been broken.

So are you going to stop OC now, because that one guy acted the way you would not have and you feel embrassed by his behavior?

Sparky, welcome back after your long hiatus...

you're right there are times when a carrier's frustration over their current situation does make some 'misbehave' and misrepresent us, as a whole, just as there are those citizens who OC their LGs w;/their finger laying on/close to the trigger or those who are sloppily CC'g their sidearms at one time i might have made a comment to these individuals who 'just don't get it' and have decided...i'm better off just keeping quiet and being a good witness...

hopefully, you stay and 'lurk' or participate again and keep OC'g in your neck of the woods of the evergreen state...

Absolutely. If he was CC, I, probably wouldn't have known and just thought him a tool, but then it wouldnt be appropriate to discuss on this particular forum.

Absolutely not. I OC for convenience and comfort and fortunately it is a legal method for me to do so. I would have been embarrassed for being the same species then.

I do plead guilty for feeling, and possibly wrongly so, that when we carry, openly or concealed, that one should act, in more of a (?)dignified(?) manner as when you do, you are representing a larger group of people then yourself. Knowingly or not.

Just sharing my experience and reminding others how our attitudes, behaviors etc. could influence others opinion of how we might choose to exercise our rights. Even though it has absolutely nothing to do with our rights as to how we conduct ourselves. (Generally speaking....)

Never left Solus! Just that we have been so successful in the normalization of OC throughout the community, that it is a nothing to report type of situation. Seeing a fellow OC isnt even a unicorn sighting anymore, but almost inspires a yawn and I believe that is mostly good news.

Although there are plenty of other battles to be fought on other fronts where our rights are being eroded.

Ten years ago the title would have been,
"Saw a unicorn!"

He acted like an ass hat, but was so happy to see one so we engaged in a mutual admiration party and passed out literature to insure everyone knew we were legal in our right to do so.

I understand your point; this is why I perceive any police officer(s) I come in contact with or in the presence of as dishonest with the intention to violate my rights.

The not well versed gentlemen, if not perceived by others as a OCer, except by you, then he had little to no impact on the OC Q-munity...as far as perceptions go that is...

Absolutely, most people are oblivious to their surroundings. But what's funny is on those rare occasions I conceal carry and when I go to Home Depot a number of employees ask: "Where's your gun" in a good way.
