PLACES RESTRICTED TO CARRY

Below is the statute listing restrictions on where you can conceal carry with your permit, my question I'd like to ask of someone more knowledgable is, do all ofthese restricted places apply to one open carrying or do some of them apply, and if so which ones? I am also keeping in mind that it is a general rule of thumb that if the law is silent on something (like open carry) then it isn't illegal.

[align=left]· (t)(i) Any facility used primarily for law enforcement operations or administration without the written[/align]


[align=left]consent of the chief administrator.[/align]


[align=left]· (t)(ii) Any detention facility, prison or jail.[/align]


[align=left]· (t)(iii) Any Courtroom.[/align]


[align=left]· (t)(iv) Any meeting of a government entity.[/align]


[align=left]· (t)(v) Any meeting of the legislature or a committee thereof.[/align]


[align=left]· (t)(vi) Any school, college or professional athletic event not related to firearms.[/align]


[align=left]· (t)(vii) Any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense alcoholic liquor and malt beverages for[/align]


[align=left]consumption on the premises, which portion of the establishment is primarily devoted to that[/align]


[align=left]purpose.[/align]


[align=left]· (t)(viii) Any place where persons are assembled for public worship, without the written consent of the[/align]


[align=left]chief administrator of that place.[/align]


[align=left]· (t)(ix) Any Elementary or Secondary School facility.[/align]


[align=left]· (t)(x) Any College or University facility without the written consent of the security service of the[/align]


[align=left]college or university.[/align]


[align=left]· (t)(xi) Any place where the carrying of firearms is prohibited by federal law or state law or[/align]
regulation.

I apologize if this comes across as being rude, but have you even considered taking a moment to search this forum? Look at some of the threads here on this exact subject?

For instance the thread titled "oc laws for out of state people" might seem like a good place to start. I'll save you the trouble:

There are no laws regarding open carry in Wyoming.

No worries my brother. The link didn't work but I looked and found your thread and that answered my question pretty much. I guess with the 2 exceptions you highlighted I could still walk into a police station open carrying?

Yep, numerous folks have. I might suspect that you may get asked about it depending on your business. For instance, I'm not sure how it might work out if you were going to visit a prisoner in the county jail. But you would certainly be within your rights to open carry.

The only legal restriction on open carry in Wyoming is Federal law. Schools and any Federal buildings, facilities. As the Count said, it would probably be counterproductive to attempt visiting a jail while carrying. I have, however, carried openly into our combined County Sheriff and local police station many times for other things. Nobody has ever even lifted an eyebrow.

All of us who carry do respect private property. If a place is posted (I've not seen one, but I live in the far NE corner and away from the cities) we simply would disarm first or not enter. Personally, I will not enter any place my gun is not welcome.

If someone askes me to leave their property or business because of the gun, I attempt to educate them but ultimately would leave as requested.

Personally, this is far more about peaceful, respectful relationships and effective self defense than a question of "the law." A thing might well be "legal," yet unwise to practice.

For myself I would not open carry in places that are off limits for concealed carry. Recently during my sons hunter safety course that was given at a local community college, the course instructor was open carrying. I asked him about it and he said he had to get a letter from the director of the college to make itokay.

Ah, because there ARE "laws" regarding concealed carry. Most of us wish that were not so, and maybe we can get there soon, but for now they are two entirely different things.

Not that it makes any sense....

I moved to Casper here from Texas last Summer, and am still getting used to OC. I finally got my CC permit here (For cold days when I wear a jacket).

OC in WY is very easy and uneventful as long as you OC only in areas that are allowable by law.
When I lived there I OC'ed every day and had zero problems.

Also, nice avatar. I have a few close friends in the IDF (Golani brigade) .

You must not have read much here. There is NO "law" against open carry anywhere in Wyoming. Open carry is not mentioned in the state code. Since we have total pre-emption, no city or county can make any rules or "laws" against it either.

Private property must be respected, of course, and any business can post "no guns" if they wish. So far, there are very few.

So, OC is "allowed" by law everywhere - only subject to private property owners wishes, of course. The fact that some cops are giving people problems at times in the larger cities is something else again. Has nothing to do with what is legal.
