The First Amendment didn't abolish or prohibit any state sponsored religions.

It just prohibited Congress from making any laws in respect to religion. At the time of the Constitutions signing and for many years thereafter more than one State had an official state religion. Even years after the ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment, the Supreme Court in United States v. Cruikshank (1876) still held that the First and Second Amendment did not apply to state governments. Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut and South Carolina funded their churches from the public treasury when that amendment was written and continued to do so for years afterwards.

Cruikshank, was one of the worst Supreme court decisions in American jurisprudence, and had very little too do with religion..

Read the case again, the SC ruled that the federal government had no duty too protect citizens, that it was the States duty too protect its citizens therefore implying that the 14th amendment protections did NOT apply to citizens.
This after over 100 innocent african Americans were massacred, aka, the Colfax massacre.. Bear in mind that the white murderers were all released, and for a long period of time, no white person was ever convicted of a crime against a black person in the south. Which eventually lead to the civil rights act of 1866.

Please be advised this horrible decision was over-turned with, Dejonge v Oregon ( 1937) and Mc Donald v City of Chicago (2010)..
Two cases again, that support the " living Constitution'.

For some time now, a few years, we have preferred foreign TV and films, particularly Scandinavian and Northern European. Most recently Bordertown (Sorjonen the protagonist's name) makes a point of mentioning that the Finnish State Church is their Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The 'bordertown' is Lappeenranta on the border with Russia, and the plot crosses the border frequently. So I've started looking for Russian crime and police procedure dramas.

The #NeverTrump-ers mistake our culture-cousins for somehow enemies more opposed to our way of life than the Islamo-fascists. Our friend's enemy is our enemy too. I wish the progs apoplexy.

So you wish the progressives too have apoplexy (a stroke).. Would that not drive up the cost of medical insurance ?
Be careful old word salad, rumor has it, that too much peddling up hill may cause APOPLEXY.

Well that's nice and all but I don't see your post refuting anything I've posted.

Fact - The First Amendment was written to prohibit Congress, it says so right there on the box.
Fact - The Colonies and later those same States had and continued to have official state religions for nearly a century after the Constitution was ratified.

Look, I'm really, Really sorry it hurts your feelings but it isn't about what is 'right' or 'wrong', it's merely a fact. Until the Bill of Rights was incorporated it didn't apply to the states and Still has not been fully incorporated.

I think we also need to look into the " selective Incorporation Doctrine".

Said doctrine is a constitutional doctrine that ensures states cannot enact laws that take away the constitutional rights of American citizens that are enshrined in the " bill of rights"

Read-- Gitlow v NY (1925)-- Brown v Board of education ( 1954) and Gideon v Wainwright (1963)..

In my humble opinion, said doctrine, is a powerful defense against any and all laws that abridge our 2nd amendment right, "to keep and bear arms".

HAD the Constitution been interpreted the way it was written - "Congress shall make no law..." versus " .... shall not be abridged" then there wouldn't be any states (or other political subdivisions) enabled to restrict Second Amendment rights. Unfortunately, it seems 'Congress shall make no law' was interpreted as "No state shall ..." and " ... shall not be infringed" interpreted as a restriction only upon the federal government.
