Open Carry on Guam

I am from Guam, Well I was recently a witness to a Double Homicide, Suicide on December 7, 2011. I agree with all when it comes to Conceal carrying, whether or not you do have a Concealed or Non-Concealed Firearms I.D. The incident where Shots were fired at Sun down and not knowing where the shooter might run to, and baracade himself elsewhere besides where he shot two ladies. Beside all that the number of crimes are rising here on island. I have a new born baby, even the area where I live have some dummies around where they would come and sit on my lanai and smoke a cig, thank the lord I have yet to catch them and had numerous idiots on the road trying to mess around with me. when my Family is being threatened... then I will bring all Force of Threat back on to them. So my theory is Carry on... but be a Smart Carrier and know your surroundings and the Safety of others. So if crime keep rising on Guam do what you got to do...

Not sure what your impression is (agree with all?) about carrying in a manner not consistent with the law.
May we presume that you are carrying legally?

New to Forum

Hafa Adai (Hello) everyone.

I'm new to this forum and a gun owner for 6 months now and been reading about gun laws on Guam thanks to slpNgrp.
With crime rate going up and me being a small business owner carrying expensive equipment to provide service to clients, I made the decision to exercise my 2nd Amendment right.
I want to open carry around Guam but me being a new owner and a conservative, I'm weary about when I can open carry in public.
As far from what I read, it is legal to carry a loaded gun in a car but any additional info is welcome especially with open carry.
I'm considering applying for concealed carry since my business/service requires me to carry expensive equipment.

I've opened carried at a few gas stations, mom & pop stores, many restaurants, and cemeteries so far.
I had a couple looks but people went about their business. I had one hard stare from an older woman at one restaurant.
I did, however, had a question from a cashier asking if I was a police officer. I then proceeded to explain about the right to bear arms and the right to defend oneself.

A ruff place

I looked for hours trying to find firearm laws on Guam. I kept looking for a line in the law that said if I have the ID you could open carry, but It didn't say ether way. I own a retail shop in Tumon have been calling the police about very strange people waiting out side and verbally threatening staff. Police are only two block down say they know who it is and they'll be down but never come. Few days later the store right next is robbed at gun point. Also I have not been threaten so may time in the last few years then when I was in high school. The atmosphere has change so much on this little laid back peace of land. Just not enough police on the street,, sometime weeks with out seeing even a cop car.

So have you run into any local law enforcement when carrying, any reaction? also when driving do you set the gun out in plane view or just keep it on?

Best,

Hafa Adai!

I'm a new open carrier in Guam (M1911 FS) and I was wondering the same thing. As a young disabled veteran and business owner here on Guam, I really wanted to know if carrying a firearm on a holster covered partially by my shirt. If that is considered concealed carry. I have done a lot of research, and there's literally nothing about it. http://www.gunpolicy.org/firearms/region/guam

Gun shop info

Went to moylen gun shop asked a lot of questions about open carry. Think I will start that way and file for concealed. I just worry about my own shop when I'm in it and having a side arm. For the most part I was told that local police have been educated about open carry and a relatively small number will bother ask for gun ID. I don't want to make people feel uncomfortable but I don't want to be a victim, in the same boat with being disabled and not being able to defend my self physically. Going in to file for ID tomorrow to get things rolling.

Just got my Blackhawk Serpa holster for 1911s Full Size, and this thing is awesome!

I started open carrying today, and I did get some looks but nothing alarming. Most of them probably thought I was a cop or something. I highly encourage open carrying, but if you can get a concealed license I say go concealed.

Only problem open carrying a full size 1911, is the size of it. Considering I have a double stack 1911 (14rds of 45 ACP) it makes it look like a brute on my persons. I'm filing an application for a concealed carry permit tomorrow, and hopefully I get it because as a Disabled Veteran, and Business owner I should be carrying concealed. I don't like the attention sometimes, and may even get harassed in the future for open carrying. :monkey

So far no problem open carrying on Guam :)

Rock Island M1911A2 I do believe.

What do you expect will be different with your application this time that will cause it to be approved?

Best,

If I'm alone in my vehicle, I have my gun within reach and in plain view from both sides of the vehicle. If someone is with me, I have mine holstered and on me at all times.
I currently wear my firearm holstered at all times and on me at all times regardless of the number of passengers.

Just to be safe, I wouldn't partially cover the firearm as it may be interpreted as a "concealed" weapon. As long as it's clearly identified as a firearm, I think it should be okay but that's my opinion.

I'm a student at GCC and have a project for Sociology class. I've read Title 10 Division 3 Chapter 60 but could not find anything about open carry. Can you provide me some info about open carry on Guam?

Glad to see that there are those of you taking an interest.

IMO - I defensive handgun (semi-auto) w/o a magazine inserted is just an expensive paper weight.

+1

Hafa Adai! I was born and raised in Guam for the first 12 years of my life and had since been residing in WA state. I haven't been back home since 2006 and I miss the beautiful weather and beaches! My family owns Harmon Mart behind K-mart and other small businesses. Glad to know that slpNgrp and taotaogalu are and have been open carrying. Just be safe, and carry on!
