Yes, this is the university where an individual attacked people first with a vehicle and then a bladed implement. In case you missed the news, here's some background: http://time.com/4583587/ohio-state-university-attack/

The Walk, titled "No More Sitting Ducks! (OSU Open Carry/Firearm Education Walk)" is described thus on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/1247404035357994/

This event is a direct response to today's vehicular & blade attack at The Ohio State University in Columbus, where details are still developing. (this post will be updated as more information becomes available)

At the moment it appears that the brave officer who shot the terrorist just happened to be in the right place at the right time - but on an everyday basis other students aren't so fortunate when subject to varying degrees of threat from criminals.

Sure, there's currently a bill in the legislature to give colleges & universities the *option* to allow concealed carry, but so what? When given the option in other states, guess what 99.9% of institutions have decided? No - I don't believe that a student's life is more valuable at XYZ University, nor do I believe that licensed ABC University students are inherently more dangerous ON campus than they OR their licensed counterparts are OFF campus.

As the organizer of six open carry/firearm education Walks on Ohio public university campii (?), I'm sick and tired of the subject of concealed carry on campus not getting the attention it deserves from Ohio's legislators and gun rights groups. There haven't even been hearings on non-optional campus concealed carry!

This needs to end.

This Walk will take place on and around OSU's Columbus campus.

Again - **date & time subject to change**.

The Walk is currently scheduled for Monday, December 5, 2016, from 11:59 AM to 4 PM.

I will probably move the start time to earlier, so for those interested, please keep an eye on the Facebook page.
*******

OPEN sidearm and/or longarm carry OR no carry are acceptable.

>> Armed *OSU STUDENT* participation is OFF <<

As posted to the Facebook page:

>> Armed *OSU STUDENT* participation is OFF <<

HOWEVER, if you're NOT an OSU student, COME ARMED (or not, your choice). You see, the OSU code of student conduct has no implications for you, since you're not an OSU student! :D

So let's make sure we're all straight on this... if you're a student at another college or university, or if you're not a student at all - you're good. If you're an OSU student, you're disarmed, unable to pointedly express your support for this Walk and its aims, and a *sitting duck* - just like every other day of the year.

Congratulations!! :(

OSU, in their wonderfully inscrutable way (I received a phone call, not an e-mail) didn't explain and hasn't yet explained the "Why?" - since two years ago in April, armed student participation was **approved**. (I've sent an e-mail asking about their thinking)

Document please. Pictures at least - video with sound would be ever so nice.
We'll do our best.

I've just found out that the fellow who did the Miami University video is coming! (I didn't think he was) Unfortunately, he'll have cold weather instead of rainy weather.

I'm ever so grateful to both men, because it really brings the Walks alive, and they're a great tool to show the wary or the unaware just what the Walks are about.

>> AFTER WALK REPORT <<

As posted to Facebook:

>> AFTER WALK REPORT <<

First, my deep appreciation to participants who traveled hours (& hours) to attend: Harrison, Hunter, Mackenzie & Mackenzie from Kent State, Katie, Ben & Adam from Youngstown, Phil from BGSU, Virgil from Dayton, Dusty& Dusty from Columbus, Donovan from Miami U., and Stephen, Steve, & Gary from Cincinnati, plus Cory from Northern KY.

What a fantastic Walk it was!

Although I'd contacted the media ahead of time, only one outlet (TV) contacted me back, so I figured that they were going to ignore the Walk. Boy was I wrong! I believe three TV stations showed up, plus the Columbus Dispatch, "The Lantern" student newspaper, and NPR. Each of the outlets shadowed us for quite a ways, and I believe one followed us for nearly the whole walk!

This Walk was distinctly different in that live video was heavily used by both the media and Walk participants. It really brought the walk to life and showed out interaction with people as well as people's reactions (or lack thereof) to our presence. (there are many, many videos available on this event page, and on media websites)

After taking pictures at the OSU sign, we walked South on High St. and turned right on 11th street. Down 11th a little ways we ran into a group of high school students from Eastmoor Academy. As we approached them and vice versa, their reaction became "What the...?" We told them what we were doing and asked if they had questions - which started 15-20 minutes worth of questions and answers. It was extremely rewarding.

As we walked around campus, seeking highly trafficked areas and guided by a former OSU student, we encountered a number of students who thanked us for being there, some who said they wished they could join us, quite a few people who asked questions, and two or three people who voiced opposition to our presence and/or to guns on campus - now or if campus carry became law.

Given that the Walk was held on a school day, the opportunity for exposure was tremendous - but what most surprised me was the number of students who a) didn't notice, or b) weren't concerned. By itself, those things aren't surprising, but we were told by multiple students that OSU **did not send out any kind of alert** that we (17 or 18 of us) would be on campus!

Watch the videos and read the considerable number of articles and you'll get a good flavor for things.

Finally, THANKS SO MUCH again to those who drove great distances and/or took off work to attend. It was an honor to be with everyone yesterday.

From the pictures posted on FB it appears there were several people that disregarded your walk instructions. Sad to see that.

I too would like to know what you meant. All firearms appear to be slung or holstered, as appropriate. Something else ?
Not all guns carried/held as requested.

Picture below from post #10 on this thread.

So, Grapeshot, Sir, Moderator extraordinare---- which guns pictured in the posted pic are not "slung or holstered"?

Sixth from left (counting the one barely visible behind the first), the one with the impressive scope.

--snipped--
Ding, ding, ding - we have a winner.

Also maybe the seventh from the left.

Thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

What do you mean?

Besides a couple of less than optimal gun handling images (huge scope guy, the pair posing with rifles in hand in front of the sign), one of the rules was
** In recognition that this is a educational, interactive, *public relations* walk, please leave “Don’t Tread on Me!”, “From My Cold Dead Hands!”, "3%", etc. flags/clothing, camo, grungy clothes, and signage at home. **

Nothing huge, but I was mostly referring to the guy wearing camo, the guy with the DTOM hat, the guy wearing something reminiscent of a military / police swat vest complete with faux badge and keffiyeh. When you only have 15 people or so, they tend to stand out a bit.

All long arms were slung. Camo guy is ex-military. The guy under the DTOM hat is someone you just don't want to mess with. I think he goes by CoL. The swat vest guy is from Bulgaria when it was still a communist country; keffiyeh has me scratching my head. He can be somewhat anal retentive when government screws with his rights. The others were there to protect BB62. But, this motley crew, for the most part, is like herding cats and blowing a dog whistle just make them mad. :D

Sure, I knew who the guy with the DTOM hat was, we had a nice conversation during the KSU walk. And I get that everyone has reasons for not following the rules BB62 put in place - but it affect the optics of the event, which is why BB62 had the rules in the first place. That's all.
