Well just wanted to say with all the crowd out Christmas shopping today I was expecting maybe a confrontation with all the soccer moms out running around. Walked in Sam's club as i normally do not a second look. Then went to our local Walmart in Hickory, N.C. as I always do not a second look although as me and the wife walked out right in front of the store was parked a Hickory Police Dept car and we walked pushing the cart right in front of his cruiser strong side facing him. He nodded and smiled no problems at all. This is my local stomping grounds wasn't expecting much except maybe a shopper who might try and educate me...lol. Just another great day in N.C. open carrying......Carry on....

Kinda nice isn't it? I was at that Walmart late one night and spent 15 minutes talking to the security guard while OC'ing. Just talking guns, CCP's, and the like. I was expecting a possible issue in AC Moore the other day but totally uneventful.

OC at Wal Mart

I am glad that it went well for you as I havent OCd at Wal Mart yet. I know that alot of people say that Wal Mart is the right of passage for those that OC and I can see why. I will be going there this weekend to finish up my Christmas shopping with the wife, but must say that I am fairly nervous about it. In Jan I am taking the CC course but still plan on OC as often as I can.

You didn't happen to be at Might Dollar in Mt View a few weeks ago did you? My wife passed a guy OC'ing as she went in. I was sitting in the car and did not see him. She said he looked to be carrying an XD. She has one, said it looked a lot like hers.

Last time I was in there was right around Halloween. But from time to time me and the wife drop in as we live in Mt. View.....I usually wear a black baseball cap 99% of the time. Went to Wally world again today and gave away my last 2 open carry fliers. Had 2 people ask how I was able to carry open and I try to carry at least 2 folded in my wallet. One guy recognized me from high school 28 years ago. My memory is fading as I'm gonna have to look him up in my high school annual..But if she happens to see me tell her to just ask and I'd more than happy to chat it up. You know us open carriers are friendly people..If your out in the parking lot I'd come on out and meet ya....Take care, and carry on

This was around Thanksgiving. If everything goes right I'll be sitting in a tree stand in Mtn View in the morning. I shot a coyote a couple weeks ago between Harris Farm Rd and the back of Westover Subdivision. Big healthy 32.5 lb male. I need another deer or 2 though.

Wal Mart first timer

Well I OCd at the Wal-Mart in Dunn today for the first time and to my relief it was uneventfull. As I walked out door I felt like I crossed a finish line of a major race. I was in there for about 2 hrs with my wife....only recieved a few looks and thats about it. Went to the Game Stop in the same shopping complex afterwards and once again nothing maybe just a look or two. A good day for OCing and the 2nd Amendment.

Good deal, congrats. My advice is just study the laws and hold your head high and don't even let other people get in your head. If something was to go down they would all be behind you on their cell phones when your handling the business. Carry on........

Ricky, thanks. I have been reading and studing the laws and have a fair understanding of them. I havent went into a big store like walmart by myself but feel pretty confident now. It was just a wierd feeling at the end of it all though. Maybe you can help me on this, but with the NC OC flyer, when I print it comes up unreadable. I dont know if there is a better version of it out there or maybe you might have a good copy that you can email me.

i also live in hickory, well closer to granite falls. ive just started to carry my gun with me around where i live but havent ventured out into " public" any really. im wanting to carry more but still am a bit nervous about it, being i am only on the backside of 20 yrs old. people see an older man/woman with a gun and dont really think anything about it. they see a younger guy carrying a pistol and think we are out for trouble or something. but it is good to know that its not a big deal around here and most of the time and hopefully ill start carrying more. ive been looking around trying to find some other people who carry around our area and see what kind of experiences they have had and from what ive seen on here so far, everything looks A-OK!

Welcome aboard. I've had one minor bad experience at the GF Walmart with an Asst Mgr. It took a few weeks but it finally got settled that he was wrong for telling me I could not carry. I finally talked to the Asset Protection Mgr and even straightened him out on GATTTOTP. Everything else has been either positive or just uneventful.

18 year old OC

Just got my first pistol, Russian 30 Cal. Revolver. Was browsing internet and learned that I can now legally open carry in the state of Pennsylvania. Have any advice for me?

Not trying to be a wise-acre here, but check with the Pennsylvania section. We will only advise you to act like the gun is a full-time part of your attire, that it's completely natural, be polite and friendly, know the PA laws, and carry a recorder. Also if a LEO/anyone tells you something about gun laws without citing the specifics, don't argue/believe until you've checked it out yourself.
Carry on!

Question

Do you open carry everywhere you go or do you pick and choose where to carry? Just curious because I'm new to carrying.
