Heard there was a mwag call about a man with a long gun uncased walking across the Orono downtown bridge. Don't know what the result was. Upset I missed the guy he literally had to walk past my house.

Where'd you see that? Hope it wasn't one of us. OC'ing long guns seems to attract more negative attention than anything.

I got a call from a friend at Orono PD asking if it was me so he could just clear it out.

OCing a long gun to me is no big deal. Just something else that needs normalization. I've slung an AR on my back in CT before with no problems. CT is as liberal as can be and 80% of the population between civilians and LEOs think OC is illegal. I'll have to find out what happened. Should see my friend on Sunday I'll ask him then.

Call was make and female walking across the bridge. Make had a rifle OCd. Police didn't find him for an encounter.

Maybe for the better?

I agree that it needs normalization, but I think smaller steps are the way to go. People freak over carrying a handgun, and an AR would probably send them into cardiac arrest. At this point it doesn't do a whole lot of good. That being said, I'm not against it in any way.

I oc'ed a G21 and a Remi .22 rifle down route one through 5 points in Biddeford once. Was walking to a pit I used to shoot at after dropping of my car for an oil change. A cop approached me on foot and said "open carry is legal, but you are walking through the busiest intersection in town with two firearms and a black duffle bag(my shooting bag). You mind if I get your first name at least? We are going to get calls about this, and this way we can avoid any other officers harassing you further." He wasn't being pushy or a dick so I gave him my first name and we talked guns for a little bit. I was new at OC at the time but I'm OK with giving a LITTLE info if asked nicely and not treated like a criminal.

Just one little problem here guys - promoting or having an in depth discussion on OCing long guns is in violation of Forum Rules

(14) LONG GUN CARRY IS OFF-TOPIC:
This web site is focused on the right to openly carry properly holstered handguns in daily American life. We do NOT promote the carry of long guns. Long guns are great! OCDO co-founders John & Mike and most of the members of this forum own at least one long gun - but due to urban area issues of muzzle control, lack of trigger guard coverage, and the fact that the long gun carry issue distracts from our main mission to promote the open carry of handguns in daily life, we will leave long gun carry activism in the capable hands of the future founders of web sites about long gun carry. Exception: This rule does NOT apply to discussions about long gun carry in jurisdictions such as California which ban handgun carry and thus require long gun carry as a matter of public policy.

No problem with an occasional allegorical story though.

Thanks for the reminder Grape! I definitely forgot all about this. I understand my story is ok...didn't even think about the "long gun rule" when starting the continuous discussion.
