During lunch break from class, a fellow classmate asked if I wanted to make a quick run to Arby's with him. I agree to the plan as long as he drove. So off we headed down west Colfax tograb a bite to eat. Keep in mind, I am sporting my Concealed Campus hoodie, but since my gun was in my car, I was without anything to conceal.

We arrive at Arby's, order our food, and as I wait to receive mine from the cashier, Ihad the distinct feeling of hands tapping me around my waist and lower back.I think it was my friend messing around with me, I glance over to my left expecting to see him. I did, but he was 10 feet away digging to the bottom of his food bag to scrape up the fries that ecsapedhis grasp. So now I think another classmate was behind me, one who also had a craving for roast beef. I do an about-face, and before me stood an old lady (maybe 80+ years) still frisking me around the hips.

Puzzled wouldn't describe my expression. Absolute confusion, maybe. I lifted my arms up a little thinking she was about to fallover and I was going to catch her, but then she rattled off in a shrill, shakey voice,

"I'm patting you down. I saw your shirt. Where is it?"

I responded with a clueless, "Huh? Ma'am?" A second later, it clicked in my head what she was so eagerly searching for. She was looking for my gun that, in a round-a-bout way, my hoodie proclaimed I had. I simply told her, still not believing what she was doing, "Uh, no ma'am. Not today. I'm just out to grab a quick bite." I turned back around, while she still continued to feel me up, grabbed my Arby's bag and stepped away from the counter to join my friend. He missed the whole thing.

I'm still not sure if she was joking around, seriously searching me for a weapon, or just a senile old-coot.

Now, I ask you... whatif I did have my CC piece on me that afternoon. I thought it was my friend poking me, so I didn't get spooked. Her first contact with me would have been EXACTLY where I carried, right (strong)side 4 o'clock.

Would she have yelled, "Oh my word! He has a gun!" My permit is legit, so I have no concern that the police would come down on me for her "assaulting" me. If anything they would tell her to keep her hands to herself and then go on about their business.

Another question... the slightly more amusing hypothetical: If I was carrying, but was alone and didn't think it was someone I knew doingthe touching, I'd hate to imagine how I'd react. It would likely begin with a swinging elbow backwards the moment I felt someone gripping my pistol that was under my shirt. Ooooo boy, now that is one to explain to the police.

"Mother-time over here reached first, officer! So I had to put her down!" :uhoh:

I think my lack of situational-awareness saved that poor old-lady from having to buy a new pair of denture. :?

I would have simply told her in a very calm and professional voice, "Ma'am, If I were carrying my weapon today, and you had touched it as you were just trying to do, you would have ended up possibly being injured as I defended myself against what I would have naturally thought to besomeone grabbing for my weapon. When the ambulance and police showed up,after possibly being treated in the hospital you would have been arrested and escorted to jail. NEVER reach for someone's weapon, it's just not a smart thing to do."

I can only hope that the old lady told her story to someone who explained to her just how dangerous her actions were andhow she may have dodged a bullet...so to speak.

This story also illustrates why I choose not to advertise my interest in guns while CCing, no hats or shirts.Same reason there are no pro gun bumper stickers on my vehicles. I don't want some joker breaking in to my truck expecting to find a gun. But to each his own.

She... he or 'it' would have recieved an immediate elbow shot to the rear at the least. I suppose senility is an excuse for stupidity... but maybe she was born stupid.

Not a good idea to advertise CC'ing... defeats the whole idea. I OC all the time tho... ('cept when it rains) 'Somebody puts their poop-pickers on my pistol (anywhere) is gonna be in for a world of immediate hurt.

I have a friend that is a little on the touchy side. Says it's from his European heritage. I told him, "he's not in Europe, and I certainly didn't care for him to bring it here." I don't want him doing that because I don't want to have to concern myself with his safety just because he can't keep his hands to himself. There's been a couple times he's regreted it.

I can understand using freinds to help train in weapon retention, but freinds who you believe would think nothing of frisking you in public, don't sound like the type I think it prudent to associate with. That is, after they've been talked to about it.

If I were to walk up to you and try to grab your weapon, that would be an attempted use of lethal force.

IMHO, "frisking" is what LEO's do. Anyone who tries to touch my weapon without permission, is not "frisking" me, and I sincerely hope that I would react to such an action so violently that that person would be quickly incapicated. Had an elderly woman tried something like that with me, it's quite possible that I would have given her a stern lecture, and had she continued after said lecture, I may have even considered getting the police involved. I wouldn't want to break here fingers. Let the police educate her on the foolishness of her ways.

Ok, but seriously, that is nuts. I guess gun grabbing knows no age limitations.

I'm kinda touchy when it comes to being touched in public. I'm afraid my weak side elbow/forearm would have been making contact somewhere on her upper body about the same time my higher brain was recognising that I was about to hurt some old lady.

If I had been able to stop the defensive reflex. I would have asked what she was doing and followed up with a stern admonition not to touch me again.

You showed a lot of restraint. Glad it ended well.
