It sounds like they are going to hold meetings to discuss how to prevent school shootings. Do you think it would be in bad taste to attend these meetings while OC'ing (assuming the meeting is not actually held at the high school)?
Send me a message on Facebook if you decide to show up...I'll join you.

The VT incident hit me hard when it happened and it's still on my mind every day. (see my avatar to the left...)

I ended up missing about a week of class since I made the trek down there the day after.

My father ended up getting very ill (unrelated to the shooting) and was hospitalized in the very same place they had a bunch of the victims. I spent a good week seeing what gun free zones enabled Cho to do. I remember sitting in front of the TV watching the news coverage as it unfolded. I remember not being able to contact my brother who was an engineering student who lived in Harper and had classes around where 30 people lost their lives. My brother and father are still with us today, which I am very thankful for.

Glad to hear that your brother and father are still with us.

I found out that the meetings they hold are at Westfield High School and are during the school day, so we aren't allowed to attend.

Would still be worth attending, even not carrying.

Just a thought.

Well it's a meeting for the students at Westfield, like a school club I guess, that is held during the school day. I don't think it's open to the general public.

They are finally having an event that is outside of the high school. Not sure that I would want to go and eat there if the money is going towards their anti-gun group though. Here's the message I got from them:

------

Hey everybody! Apologies if you have already recieved an invitation for the event but if you haven't then here it goes:

A week from tonight, Wednesday, April 14 from 5-8 p.m. Texas Roadhouse in Chantilly, VA is donating 10% of their profits to Westfield 32. This money will go directly to the Angel Fund. Don't worry we will be having another for the Erin Peterson Fund and many more dinners to come!

The biggest thing is to give the flyer that we have made to your waitress otherwise they don't donate 10% of your check so please please please get one from myself, Trevor Knickerbocker or Haley Flanagan. They will hopefully be at the hostess stand near the entrance as well the night of so hopefully we've got all our bases covered.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or conerns and PLEASE COME!

Back to the point of the thread

The point was guns at school. I'm a self admitted hypocrite on this one. I armed my daughter when she went college and coached her up on how to avoid discovery. At the same time, I've been to colleges and can tell you that a hormone, alcohol, push your boundaries environment is not the optimum location for handguns.

When one proves that his ownership or carriage of arms is "not ideal," then he should be denied that right. Until then, it is a right of the person, not of the circumstance.

And you would deny it to other daughters, but not your own.

Hey, I admitted I'm a hypocrite on this one. Never said I was right but won't pretend that's not how I feel.

(sigh)

(Statism can get really ingrained, taking a while to unlearn.)

(Nice, catches Eye.)

1) You overlook that vast change can occur simply from training in responsible handling, storage, and use of defensive handguns. Is the basic human right of self-defense not worth the expense? Or, shall we just stop at "too immature to be trusted with a gun."

2) Part of the debate about abating rights denial at colleges is for CCW permit holders to be allowed. CCW permit holders are 21yrs old, backround-checked, often trained*, and some, perhaps many, do not live on campus, including, for example, graduate students.

*18.2-308 requires proof of competence from applicants for a VA resident CHP. It gives a list of "acceptable" documents such as DD-214 (military discharge).

At least he recognizes it, and owns it. I can work with someone with that kind of honesty.

The simple point of this thread is:

VA Tech has reaffirmed that the social experiment to create gun free (READ DANGER FREE FALSE UTOPIA) zones is a failure, and it happened in the worst possible manner. A homicidal/suicidal maniac claimed 32 lives.

The only numbers that count in preventing unjustified homicide are caliber size, magazine capacity, and the rounds that hit the bad guy. Forget laying down 32 people on the ground. 9mm, 357 magnum, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP are good numbers to start with.

Don't forget the ratio of those who carry in any immediate vicinity to those who are perpetrating the crime.
