My sister and my wife went out to Wal-Mart in Warrensburg, MO a while back. Understand from the get go of this story that my wife understands open carry, owns guns, knows how to use them etc. My sister on the other hand wouldn't know a shotgun from a bb pistol and is one of the biggest hypocrites I know when it comes to guns.

So they come home one evening from Wal-Mart, and as soon as they put the groceries away my sister came walking into the living room. "You won't believe what we saw at the store." She said.
I bit. "What?"
"Ohmygawd, this guy was walking around and he had a cowboy hat on, and he had two nine mil pistols strapped on his hip, like a gunslinger or something. It was so crazy!" (Later my wife corrected her that it looked more like a .45 ACP on one side and extra mags strapped to his belt on the other, but I digress) My sis went on to explain that she wanted to leave the store at that point, but my wife dragged her along to continue shopping, despite the fact that this "armed lunatic" was in the store.
I shrugged. "What was he doing?"
"Shopping!"
"No kidding." I had to grin. My sister had never seen anyone open carry a firearm in her entire life (aside from me, and when I do it she generally doen't approve), and she was completely blown away that a person could walk around like that. She had apparently contemplated notifying the store manager, but again my wife talked her out of it. Then the real fun began as she said she hoped the man had a permit for those 'things'. I laughed at her and told her that no permit was required in this state to OC. That seemed to blow her mind all over again. "Well he shouldn't just be able to walk around like that in public!" she said. She continued on about how people shouldn't be allowed to have guns. I took that a bit personally and pointed out that I own guns, and so does our father, and just about everyone else in the entire family, and I'm in no mood to give them up any time soon.
"Well that's different." She said, rolling her eyes. "I don't mean they should take YOUR guns."
"But they should take that other guys guns?" I asked skeptically.
"Well, maybe. No, I guess. But he shouldn't be walking around with them like that. It's freaky."
Anyway, the conversation went back and forth like that for almost two hours as we went back and forth about criminals, right to carry, personal protection, and all through the a b c's of gun ownership. I don't know if I changed her mind, but finally she 'tapped out' and went about her business.

So, for all of you OC'ers in the Warrensburg area, I think you're doing a great job, and just being seen by the sheeple is getting people talking, and opening avenues for education and conversation. They might not walk up and talk to you while you're out and about, but they're definately bringing conversations home. Keep up the good work!

Ignorance and virginity can be cured. Stupidity can not.

Are you sure she's not adopted?

Good work trying. Maybe a little bit seeped through. Now, just like the little stream that eventually carved out the Grand Canyon, keep working at it.

stay safe.

Mom says no, but some days I wonder. LOL.

We grew up in the same house for the most part, but she split pretty early in life. As adults we've gone down different paths and now we're prettymuch polar opposites when it comes to any given topic. She's getting better about guns and some politics though. I think most of it just has to do with education to be honest. She's scared of guns because she doesn't know anything about them. As she learns more she seems to loosen up a bit though.

I suggest - don't let your sister visit Arizona where many CITIZENS OC. Your sister might have a heart attack.

Kirbinator, I would strongly suggest you delete or edit your post.

Basically calling another member's sister easy based on her beliefs on gun rights is something I would expect out of antis, and gives this forum a black eye.

Why so negative?

Perhaps he was implying that she'd be so overcome with cognative dissonance that she's suffer some sort of epiphany of freedom, and would immediately find that the most attractive thing in the world was Free Men, exercising Liberty and Personal Responsibility, and she'd want to share the joy of her exalted realization on an intimate level with one of those Liberty-flaunting Citizens....

It's been tried.

+1 This is the only true proven method to cure gun-phobia. Worked for my mom, worked for my liberal friends.(Well, they are still Liberal, they just aren't gun-grabbers)

Yup, it worked on my wife as well. She was very 'gun shy' when we first met, and after some time learning about them and firing them she is now very gun saavy. I've invited my sister out to the range a few times, but she has no interest or intention of going.

In her defense though, she has 4 sons, and she has always been very cool about me teaching them gun safety, and how to shoot (with a pellet gun or a .22). She knows that when they get older they'll be going hunting with me and their granddad, and it's very likely that they'll own their own guns when they become adults. Right now her kids probably know more about proper use of a firearm than she does, but at least she is willing to let them learn instead of shielding them from it like some folks do.
