Apparently the CVS at 95th and Blue Ridge in KC is off limits to open carry -- at least, that is the opinion of "SGT" Stanley Johnson of the security service who was there yesterday afternoon. He claims that it is a new CVS corporate policy. My wife and I have OC'd there for over a year with no trouble. I am waiting for a response from CVS corporation now.
It started when we walked in and when I glanced in his direction, he tried to get me to come over and talk to him by crooking his finger at me which I ignored. He then said, "Hey, are you a cop or something? Or a bounty hunter or something?" I responded with my standard response, "I'm sorry, I don't discuss personal information with strangers." So he held up his "badge" (name tag in an ID sleeve) and said, "Well I'm SGT Johnson and we don't allow peoples who can't show a badge to be in here wit [sic] guns." I asked if that was the CVS policy and he said it was a new policy and I would need to leave. So I went outside, walked over to the front door and observed that there were no signs prohibiting weapons and then headed toward my car.
On the good side, though, a spectator to the event asked me if guards had the sense to recognize that criminals don't wear weapons where they can be seen
Some of his friends open carry, 2 business owners. He says now he probably will look into it now.
At one point, as we talked while my wife shopped, the guard peeked out the window carefully (according to my wife who observed him) and sent the manager to kick me off the property. The manager went outside but just took out the trash and went back in.
The CVS employees have been GREAT, one of them is even from Africa and has seen REAL bad people murdering people in the streets. She loves us Every employee has been very friendly and it has been very nice shopping there.
Time to wait for the response.
