I'm from the Reno area.

I was going to wait a few days to introduce myself here on the forum, but I've lurked here for quite a while. Since I was 14 or so, I've basically been a firearms enthusiast, and have shot them since then.Ihave strictly followed all firearmhandling rules and always taken them seriously. In a few days however, I will be 18, which I believe means that here in Nevada I can open carry.

Federal law does not permit someone under 21 from purchasing a handgun of course, but I would assume its legal for me to be given a handgun that has been my parents for years. (since I have not seen laws describing otherwise, and seem to recall many stories here about people under 21) Of course, there are always rifles too!

I'm still in High School. For some reason it never quite occurred tome until recently that I could legally carry a gunbefore the time occurred that I would graduate. (of course, I know that you can't have a firearm anywhere near a school or in any government structure for that matter) Speaking of school, I've gained considerable experience arguing over gun control with anti-gun teachers.

I have seen a few people carrying in Reno. I saw a woman carrying a Beretta 92 once in the Taco Bell off of Moana exit. I also sawa someone with a Glock once at the gas station near the Sherrifs dept. Also one time I saw someone with a Sigin GenghisKahn's. (Mongolian food place).I suppose its possible they could have been off duty LEO, but I saw no indication of it.

If an open carry gathering occurs somewhere, I would be interested. Of course, if young "whippersnappers" like me are unwanted, I understand. I do know of a few other older people who might also be considered gun enthusiasts, but I'm not sure how willing they would be to try something like this. Who knows though, I don't even know if they realize OC is legal.

Now I'm officially 18. I'm officially semi-privileged. Too bad there is still such a wide variety of things I still cannot do until I'm 21.

I got a Galco holster (and belt) foran S&W 4" Revolver for my birthday! (And Ican usethe revolver too, but my family has had it for a while)

I open carried in Reno today. I went to the mall (busy this weekend), as well as to a couple other little stores. Nobody said anything, except when I ran into somebody that I knew.

(Conversation-- Him: "Is that areal gun?" Me: "Yes" Him: "Do you have a permit?"Me: "Don't need one, only need one to conceal")

I live in Elko, (moved here Dec 7th, A day that will live in Infamy) and I'm one of the local Navy recruiters here.. Reading about the open carry, I think that I'll start carrying my Ruger security Six with me when I'm out on the town..

Former resident here

I go back every year for desert trips I carry a 1860 cap and ball replica everywhere but downtown Reno. I am sure no one would say anything about the big old hog leg. but once I leave town, I have never had a comment. had lunch in the only diner in gerlach last summer not one word, same in yerington, & outside carson city

in the early 90's when I lived in Reno, I got stopped for DUI/DWI and I had a few. I had my walther sitting on the front seat in plan view, the cop could care less. obviously he was only interested in the drinking. He thought I was ok so he let me go

sure wish my Fla res ccw was valid I 'd feel better

Welcome to the forum Sprat.

Well, since I've been carrying the modern equivelant of your gun through Reno for the last month, I would say you are right that no one would be likely to say much.

Unless of course they wanted to know if you were part of the civil war re-enactment club!!! ;)

About the only time I see people open carrying those old gunsin Renois during the Reno Rodeo parade, but it seems like every time I head up to Virginia City I'll see people carrying old guns like that. But then, that whole town looks like it would fit right into the 19th Century! I go up there every year for fireworks on 4th of July.

Dundonrl, welcome to the fold of Revolver-wielding Nevadans!

I am not from there, but I have worked and OC'd in the following cities;

Ely, Elco, Wendover, Eureka, Gabbs, and even in really big cities like Current. :)

Hi njeske,

Perhaps you'll remember me from the now defunct packing.org site.

Am near Reno. Would enjoy chatting with you.

Well, just got a call from my apartment complex manager here in northwest Reno (he was out of the office until today) whonoticed someone carrying a gunearlier and thought it might have been me.

Yep - it was.

Hecalled me to touch base, get to know me a bit and let me know thathe did his reasearch, knows thatit's perfectlylegal and that he is all for it! We talked for a biton the benefits of OpenCarryand he sounds like a niceguy. Even invited me up for a cup of coffee. He said if he gets any calls WRT me OC'ing in the complex, he'll take care of it and educate them that it's perfectly legal and that bad guys don't OC! I told him thatif anyone calls the police, hopefully they'll educate the callerthat it's legal. If not, I'll educate them both!

This here's one GUN FRIENDLY apartment complex! :celebrate:monkey:celebrate:monkey

Makes me want to visit Reno. OC without hassle in the casinos...apartment complexes actually understanding and wishing to comply with the law...

Tonight I went for a beer with coworkers after work. Despite sound, educated pro-gun arguments, including accurate FBI statistics, recently passed laws, etc, and not a single educated or fact based anti-gun response, none of the four people I was there with supported my position. They applauded my passion, but didn't like my reference to "The Brady Bunch".

And despite being well-respected at the office for my knowledge and professionalism, I was quickly dismissed for my opinion on this topicand felt like I was being treated like a nut job.

The local news here in Vegas has a nightly segment called "The Rant" in which viewers can send voicemails and emails to be heard on air. Two nights ago on the news, the sheeple were all up in arms in response to a story about a legally operated gun store only a few hundred feet from a high school. Aside from the fact that the liberal media presented the story in a way as to suggest that this gun store operating nearby was an injustice that needs corrected...Naturally, my response was censored. And the bars next door were ignored, but the gun store, a closely regulated business that requires background checks and files federal forms on each purchase, was a dangerous business that ought not be allowed nearby schools. One person even called for the county to create regulations banning such businesses from operating so close to schools. SO GLAD WE HAVE STATEWIDE PREEMPTION!!
