I was on my way through Rural Hall today, and since it was my son's birthday i thought i would stop in at "Pro-shots", to get him a holster for his S&W.

as i came by the front door i noticed in big letters "NO LOADED WEAPONS PAST THIS POINT". I say i was a bit shocked by this blatant hopolophobe attitude by a gun store.so i parked in the parking lot, and went in, and gave them a NO gun = no $ card and told them that i was going to buy a holster but not with a sign like that on the door. then i walked out.

one thing i would like to know is, where do you make a report about a unfriendly business?

You could have just unloaded your firearm, and put the mag in your pocket while trying out a holster.

The fact is, if you are test-fitting a holder, you should do it with a gun that is GUARANTEED to be unloaded and clear anyway.

Gun stores put these signs up because they don't want some fumble-fingered goob having an ND while trying to stuff his Glock into some flimsy $20 nylon rig.

So although I agree that if you're going to be fitting a holster, it is perfectly reasonable for a store to request that the gun be unloaded, having a GENERAL ban on carrying loaded in a gun store IS sort of egregious.

This is the main reason why I never buy anything at Mackey's anymore--they also have a general "no loaded guns" policy...

I got my XD from WT because i got an unbeatable deal but im sick of the high and mighty attitude there. A no loaded sign and all guns have to be in a case? But all employees walk around loaded holstered guns? KMA! Four seasons ftwm

I've been to three gun shops that actually encourage firearm carry. one owner said the way he looks at it you could save his life when he couldn't get to his firearm.

the biggest thing that aggravates me is the elitism that this policy promotes.remember it is the so called "expert" that usually has the AD. look the point is even Wall-mart lets me carry in their store

if you think someone is safe enough for you to sell them a gun and ammo but they are not safe enough to have that gun loaded with said ammo around you, that makes you a hypocrite at the very least

They need to change their sign to say “No handling of loaded weapons past this point”. It may be worth a suggestion if they are a good LGS and have good prices.
If they don’t change the sign I wouldn’t shop there either…

I think our local gun store has the correct idea. "no loaded guns out of their holster. If you are bringing in a gun for service or to put on consignment (they do a lot of consignment business) the breach bolt needs to be open when you hand the weapon to the clerk." They have a half buried 55 gal drum of sand as a clearing station outside the door..

i agree, before you hand a firearm to any one, or you are going to handle it around people. you should make sure it is unloaded. standard procedure. but do not ask me to disarm.

by owning the business you can demand me to disarm before going in, just don't expect me to come in. i will take my business elsewhere and i will talk about you.

I still go to WTs but only to window shop. Then I order from Four Seasons. I don't even shoot at WTs anymore.

since i have to leave my firearm in the car to window shop at wt's i wont even entertain window shopping...and when i saw a very pg young lady in the range watching her partner shooting that their range person allowed in w/o even mentioning the hazards to her unborn child i flat out refuse to shoot there ever again.
