No Guns Allowed at Ky. Center for the Arts

I got the picture below from a Facebook group that I belong to. The Ky. Center is located in downtown Louisville. The Board of Directors of the Center operates the Brown Theatre on Broadway and Ky. Center for the Performing Arts on Main St, which houses three live performance theaters. The Ky. Center for the Arts Corporation was formed by statute (KRS 153.420) in 1980. The Board is appointed by the Governor. Several of the members of that Facebook group say that they have been denied entry and sent to their cars by security until they disarmed. This behavior has been going on for several years. It appears that none of them objected or protested that treatment. KC3 is looking into this and will deal with it appropriately when all of the facts are learned.

In response to my Open Records Request, I got this:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/nawc7nkgbhzfu64/Firearms and Public Safety Q and A (New 10-29-18).docx.pdf?dl=0

I also got the explanation that they did not ban guns but often the promoters of events at Louisville Center for the Arts made it a part of their leases. The man that sent this to me in the first place says that the sign was placed at the main entrance and that there were three different events that day. I have a new Open Records Request in for all of those leases. The "Louisville Center" logo at the bottom makes it appear that the ban is theirs. It appears that they are aware of the law but are pretty sloppy in their implementation of it. I doubt there is much KC3 can do about this. I do intend to send an email to Mr. Kaelin and complain about the placement of the sign and the logo. I suspect he will ignore me. I also intend to go there one afternoon when there is no performance and ask for the ticket office. I will be obviously OC. I wonder if they will ignore me that day.

I really like the part about snipers on the roof.

It's a bummer that KY allows renters of public owned property to disallow carry, but evidently that's the way it is. I'm sure the "public servants" who work at the LCA are only too glad to inform renters of their rights to disallow carry.

From what I gather from the documents, it doesn't seem that the renter can control carry by employees, though - correct?

Let us (or me via PM/text) know when you're planning your mission - except if you're going in your black ninja sniping outfit. 😉

I am not sure what you mean. It is certain that they can prohibit carry by their own employees on that rented property. And I suspect that they could also prohibit the employees of the lessor from carrying in the space that they have leased. They are treated just like they were the owners of the property and that seems to be the only answer that fits that requirement.
