Never Been Delayed 30 Days...Until Now!

I have purchased dozens of firearms in the city of Seattle over the past 12 years. I have never been delayed.

I now live in Federal Way, and my first 2 purchases took the usual time. Then I got delayed 10 days on a pump shotgun.

I then decided to purchase a Walther Q5 match and a Q5 .22lr last week, and got a call saying that federal way police department has delayed me for 30 days.

I'm 42, got into a fight when I as 18. That's what they are looking into.

Has anyone else experienced 30 day delays when purchasing multiple firearms within a short period of time specifically for background issues, not relating to COVID?

Curious if 1639 is a factor in this...

Carry on!

Washington is a partial POC state for NICS. The state conducts background checks for handguns, but rifles and shotguns are handled by the FBI NICS system. Your shotgun and pistols background checks are handled by two different systems.

Does Washington have a law that is more restrictive than the Brady law? Federal law (Brady) allows the transfer to proceed after three business days (not counting the first day or the day of transfer, so 5 days minimum in reality). Unless Washington says you can't complete the transfer until the background check is finally complete, federal law allows it to go forward.

Your dealer may or may not want to do that; it's entirely optional, and if the FFL wants to wait for a "PROCEED" ruling, there's little you can do about it except switch dealers for future buys.

This could be just because a similar person (name/DOB) is flagged. If you continue to have delays, file a VAF and get a UPIN to put on the 4473 to speed things up.

milady, if i may offer a perspective...
with the pandemic causing furloughs. sick-outs, ad nauseam at WSP and SO as well as coupled with the BS lackluster "who gives a poop" from those in power exacerbated by recent [term is relative] anti firearm incentives might/could/maybe/has caused your problem.

while k.b.'s advice might be beneficial in olde normal days...in the new normal ~ FBI NICS is undermanned and sickouts have caused the agency even more dire straits on "prompt" [previous responce averaged 15-18 months] to clear citizens' purchase issues!

guess you might have to wait a bit to appropriately spend your stimulus $$$🥳

If you think it is bad where you are, look at the fiasco IL-ANNOY is in now ! Some concealed carriers are 4+ months past their expirations, can't take the required renewal class due to "Jabba's" lockdowns, and FOID card holders are in even worse shape. Many are 6+ months past expiration, and some gun stores are no longer accepting them despite the ISP "allowing" their functionality for up to a year after the "emergency" is lifted.
Many have tried calling the "customer service" line, many time without it being answered. The same goes for emails sent to the Bureau's address as they request.

forgive the query...H U H?

what fiasco?

uh further why would citizens be six months (180 days) behind on their renewal especially since Pritzker declared the lock down on 20 march 2020 or 68 days??

additionally, IL renewal process is in massive chaos and has been months prior to the pandemic ordered shutdown which exacerbated the overal situation thru illness, stay at home, child care issues of assigned personnel who were/are processing IL citizens' FOID issues. (9 April 2020 IL Center Square, quote:Even before the COVID-19 pandemic brought things to a virtual standstill, Illinois State Police officials said they were working through a backlog of tens of thousands of Firearm Owner Identification card renewal requests. Some applicants said they have waited months. unquote) https://www.thecentersquare.com/ill...cle_17f6f800-7aa6-11ea-bb0f-b324a78b01e9.html

to be candid, if i were an FFL in IL i sure as h3ll wouldn't accept citizen's expired FOID as mandated by the IL legislation...what better way to force change of this stupid privilege & revenue scheme then to follow the law and irrate the legislative constituency-- huh?

ps: from IL STATE POLICE per CBS 9 April 2020, quote:
The rules that were filed this week include:

  • FOID card holders, who submit their renewal application will remain valid during the duration of the state’s disaster proclamation and for a period of 12 months following the termination of the disaster, even if their renewal application is/was not submitted prior to expiration.
  • CCL licensees, who submit their renewal application, will remain valid during the duration of the state’s disaster proclamation and for a period of 12 months following its termination, even if their CCL renewal application was not submitted prior to expiration.
  • CCL licensees will not be required to immediately submit proof of three-hour training with their CCL renewal application.
  • CCL licensees will need to submit proof of their three-hour renewal training within 12 months following the termination of the state’s disaster proclamation in order to maintain the validity of their CCL license. unquote.

I haven't got my check! When I do get it the feds are buying me a brand new Walther Q5 SF.

I figured out what the issue was. I put my SS# on the last 3 application that were delayed. For some reason I filled in my SS# when I usually don't. They got a hit on my previous name from the SS#. Stupid me.

I've seen people here in Arizona get told to wait 10 days before they can pick up there new pistol/rifle. Me, I walk in with my CCP and walk right back out with my new pistol.

What the hell's this world coming to?

Noticed your username, I have the M9 commercial.

92fs used to be my daily carry for a number of years. I have always like the aesthetics of the 92fs, and the way it felt in my hand.

Lately I’ve been carrying a Ruger Security 9, or Q5 Match.

I’ve put 3,000+ rounds through my security 9 with zero issues. Ran about 1,000 rounds through theQ5 with zero issues.

When I bought my Q5 Match a few weeks back I originally walked in the gun shop meaning to purchase an M9A3. Held the Q5 and instantly bought it instead.
