Guys,

This is my first post here so please forgive me if I overlooked something.

I live in CA and travel to NV often and have always open carried when in NV. The AG's web page used to have information explicitly stating that this was OK, i.e. these URLs which Google has cached:

[size="-1"]ag.state.nv.us/menu/top/who_are_we/faqs/ccw/carry_firearm.htm

However, now that URL is 404 and there is no information on the AG's page. Has the status of OC changed in Nevada? Policy decision? Something goofy going on?

Thanks!

If you're looking for a specific statue that states OC to be leagal, stop looking. There isn't one. You can OC in Clark county, but you cannot carry a loaded weapon in your vehicle in Boulder City or North Las Vegas, as they have deadly weapon provisions.

I OC in Vegas Daily.

No, thank you, but I'm not looking for a specific statute. The standard maxim of penal law in the United States is that if it is not expressly forbidden, it is permitted (the exact opposite being the basis of the Soviet legal system). I realize that failure to ban it means it is legal.

What I am curious about is WHY the Nevada AG pulled that info (as well as the info about obtaining a CCW). Has there been some push to outlaw OC in Nevada? I wanted to check here first, to see if anyone knew anything useful or interesting before looking through all the pending legislation and current changes to NRS.

Thanks.

I have no idea. I have not heard anything regarding that.

since the last election, the new AG is a Democrat. i know most electedDemocrats in NV are pro-gun or at least neutral, but that may have something to do with it.

I would agree that the casino restriciton is erroneous, at least according to state law. It may just be an error, but it might also be the fact that every casino I've seen (at least in Vegas) is posted, which makes it a trespassing issue.

Legal or not (and I believe it is), casino open carry is not going to fly here. As soon as someone notices, security will ask you to leave. Concealed is really the only viable option for casino carry.

An even better option, in my opinion, is to avoid the casinos entirely. ;)

No law exists banning guns in casinos. There is a RULE in a few prohibiting them, but all they can do is escourt you off the property. If you resist or don't leave when asked, you can get a $25 trespassing citation from an LEO and chance being banned from the property.

Maybe that's how it is in Vegas, but Reno is completely different. A buddy of mine and I open carried in downtown Reno for several hours on Saturday. Right now Hot August Nights is going on. We walked up and down Virginia St., into 4 casinos, even walked past a few Reno P.D. on bicycles. No problem at all. After that we went to the Peppermill and played blackjack for an hour. Now, it may have helped that we were both dressed nice (jeans anda tucked in polo shirt) and had our wives with us, but either way it wasn't any problem at all.

also, the only casino i know of that posted in Reno is Harrah's.

I completely understand the worry about a possible anti-gun push in NV but it is the exact opposite. They reworked all the statutes pertaining to concealed carry and the new laws will be effective Oct 01, 2007. The laws are a little more pro-gun. They probably just took the web pages down to be revised and will go back up on the first of October.

while we made some good progress, not all the new laws are pro-gun. we had to make some compromises in order to get legislation past Bernie Anderson. for example, private licensed day care facilities are now off-limits for carry. that's the first time NV has restricted carry on private property. LET'S NOT RE-ELECT BERNIE ANDERSON!!! I believe he represents a district in Washoe county.

The State has created a "self-defense free zone" applicable to private property.
