Need help Recovering my Python

I'm looking (frantically at this point) for someone in MD to help me save my early seventies Python, 6" , blue from a pawn shop in return for generous compensation. It was a gift from my father on my thirtieth birthday, and I'm about to lose it.

I'll spare the details here, unless someone asks. If anyone is willing to help, please email me privately, charter9@earthlink.net, or call me at 301 717-5229, or request more info here, if appropriate. I'm afraid it will be sold this week.

Thanks!

Chuck

Now that's a helluva first post. Good luck. Nice gun.

Edit: It would be helpful if you wrote how much the pawn was for/needs to be covered.

Warning: beware of straw purchase violations, folks. Whatever happens here, make sure you do it right.

Sorry for posting, this, CharterOne. Not trying to discourage anyone, just trying to keep it all square and save trouble.

The way I read his post, he's not asking for someone to buy the gun from the pawn outright, he's asking for a loan to recover the gun from pawn and he will repay the loan with interest.

I don't make high dollar loans myself, at least nothing that I would cry about if I never saw again. $50 is my limit.

I would be more concerned about the straw purchase. If all he needs is money, why would it have to be help from someone in Maryland? Sounds way too much like a "Bloomberg" to me.

No straw purchase. Here's the deal. This gun and my Woodsman Match Target were in pawn three years ago when I fell into some legal / financial trouble that cost me literally everything, and prevented me from recovering them. The shop, made aware of what was going on, went way beyond in working with me so that I didn't lose them, until I got back on my feet.

I recently recovered the Woodsman as agreed, and the owner told me when I was ready, we could work out something on the Python. It is simply not worth what was owed on it, at least not to anyone but me.

I attempted to do that last Friday, but the guy in the shop was told to pull it for resale, and the only option I had was to buy it outright for $1495. (Not sure it's worth that to anyone but me either!)

I could pay $200 cash now, then the full amount of the purchase price within 60 days or less, with reasonable retail interest, and a weekly payment if necessary. This is what I offered to the dealer, close to the terms of the original pawn, but he said he needs the full amount. I suspect he's under the pressure of accounting details, as it is showing so far in arrears on his books. Don't think the guy's messin with me. He's just a business man.

You would buy it directly from the dealer, NICS check and all, completely above board, and keep it until I pay it off. Then I would do the same when I recover it. Already cleared the NICS check for the Woodsman.

This would work out to a roughly 125% return after two months on an anuallized basis. I have no problem with that, since, as I said, it has special value to me as a collector piece.

Yeah, I know, I could simply replace it for considerably less, but this one is "special".
Gift from Dad and all, and it was on of my three competition guns back in my championship days.

As to why someone in Maryland, at this point, it is being purchased as a used piece, not recovered out of pawn. In either case, the buyer has to be in state. You would hold it as security, or as your own if I don't recover it. (In my mind, that's not even a possibility!)

Sorry to hear about your situation Charter, but I doubt anyone here will take you up on that deal. On the other hand, I don't know too many gun people who would plunk down $1500 on a 30 year old wheel gun. It's prolly safe to say it will be there when you get the cash.

Pawn shop can sell to a resident of any state. They then must send pistol to an FFL in your state for transfer to you.

No third party in MD needed.

IOW.
1) You pay the pawn shop
2) They ship to your local FFL of choice
3) You do paperwork/NICS/pick up handgun at your FFL
4) It's yours! :)

Sorry to hear about your situation, and very sorry for any implication that you might not be on the up and up. I hope you understand that these days, you can't be too careful if you want to keep your rights.

Sucks you don't have the cash to re-buy this gun right now... Honestly you should ask a friend/family member to loan you the $, buy it yourself and get it FFL'ed to your own gun shop, pick it up, and owe them afterwards.

DO NOT have them buy the gun and keep it for you, it's a straw whether or not you're paying them now or in 2 months for a gun they purchase now if the sole intent of them buying it is for you. If you don't have any family/friends who can help you out, then go the RISKY short-term loan from one of those cash-shops around the seedy parts of town. They WILL hit you with crazy interest until you pay thme back, but that crazy interest might be worth if it you're really scared of somebody else buying your dad's old piece.

I wouldn't trust strangers on the 'net from either end... Anybody could buy the gun, and hold it ransom for 2x the price the shop's charging now that they all know how much it means to you. That'd be a dick thing to do of course...

Um, yeah...doesn't sound right. What exactly is "generous compensation"?

Well, with the additional information it maysound plausible.

But that is exactly the kind of spin a Bloomberg/MMM/Rev. Jackson/Brady sting would have.

To transfer any regulated gun (handgun/assault weapon) in Maryland, you need to go through MSP or a Regulated Firearms Dealer in MD for the paperwork to be done.

$1495 + expenses seems prettyhigh for a Python. Unless there is something special about it..
