We do respect the 2nd amendment always have and we do respect
Nevada's right to open carry,
On that day I had a dinning room full of guests one family had four children in the group who were unruly and when they noticed the gun the gentleman was wearing they went towards the weapon I had to stand between the gun and the children because the man was not paying attention to his surroundings. I then ask that he snap his holster and either cover, check or remove his weapon his choice.
I just want to say put yourself in others shoes before judging and jumping to conclusions you must hear both sides of the story.By the way the family was ask to leave..

Which family was asked to leave?

And she just admitted that "checking" the gun was an option she presented? Seriously?

However, she has put in writing to us that they respect open carry, and that this situation is claimed to have had exigent circumstances.

I think that means we can go back openly carrying.

Got the same email.

In a follow up e-mail Connie said that she welcomed open carry as long as the firearm is securely holstered. She also mentioned that they are a big supporter of open carry and have bumper stickers on their walls supporting it, etc.

Since I was not there on the day of the incident, I can't jump to any conclusions. I will have to see what happens when I go in there.

I received the same. Replied and thanked her for her response and explanation. If her version is correct the op needs a little work on situation awareness and tactical positioning. My take on the family asked to leave was the unruly family with children.

I will stop in if I find myself in the vicinity and hungry at the same time.

...If her version is correct ...

I know the OP. Aside from being a guy with good observation and military bearing (active duty USAF), he carries in a Serpa retention holster. Just because she doesn't see a thumb strap doesn't mean she knows the hell she is talking about. Her confirmation about asking that he "check" the firearm proves that.

My guess is that her version was well tweaked for our benefit after getting several unexpected letters about it.

This very well could be the case. Perhaps she realized it was good for business.

I was never asked to "cover" my weapon, I would have remembered being asked to conceal my weapon. I KNOW everything that was going on in that restaurant at the time. There were two cowboys sitting at the nearest table to us, 2 little girls that kept running in and out of the restaurant not wearing shoes (heavy footed as well); their mother was trying to keep them under control. Their father actually looked military - crew cut with oakley sunglasses. There was another couple sitting at the table closest to the door. A short woman with short blond hair working the bar was tending to an older man wearing flannel sitting and presummably drinking beer. He hadnt been there long enough to have more than one. The owner (Connie?) was in the kitchen with one other person. Another blonde woman with long hair had just arrived on shift from tonopah. A brunette man with a goatee and a ball cap with a flat bill was the one who waited on us. This is not includong the three transient tourists that were looking at trinkets.

I carry at 2 oclock, so my firearm is always observable to me. I will be my pistol that connie doesnt remember all of that. HOWEVER, as they say in the military - perception is reality. She percieved a threat to the safety of her facility and i respect that. And I am man enough to admit that maybe my memory isn't correct and that I am wrong. Even more so, I respect her affirmation that open carry is welcome in her establishment.

In celebration of another company being added to the "friendly flyer" list - I say we plan an OC meet up at the little aleinn and a tour of the conspiracy theorist attrations of area 51. After all, we are all tin-foil hat wearing nut jobs, right? ;D

Exactly. Having been around the OP some myself I can say this is true.

Yeah I got the same cut and paste e-mail you guys did.

Just have to make sure that I understand this, A person walks in and behaves in a completely benign fassion, carrying a firearm in a legal manner, Some unruly kids seem to be going towards him and she thinks that this means they are going for his gun; and the person with the firearm, should be the one who hase to modify their behavior? She respects our right to open carry but demanded that he "cover up," "remove" or "check" the firearm? This is respecting our rights? Garbage! I'm not ready to cast my vote to put this place on the "friendly" list. Not to mention the fact that she called into question the accuracy of the OP's story. I might not know him all that well, but I know him better than I know her, so I'm leaning his way on this one.

You missed nothing. The food there is poor at best....TBG

That's the truth. My son and I stopped by there during our Summer 2008 desert trip. My then 15 year old son didn't even finish his hamburger, it was that bad. How can you possibly screw up a hamburger?

The owners have a poor reputation for customer service. But that's to be expected for a place that is out in the middle of nowhere and a tourist attraction to boot.

OP, did you see the flying saucer while you were there?
