I routinely OC my Vaquero 7.5" .45 Colt.

The .45 Colt remains my favorite handgun cartridge of all time, and the Vaquero is the best firearm ever made for it. Mine has been through everything, including taking a 105-yard Mule deer with a factory Winchester Silvertip.

Holster wear on the blued model just means more character. It ain't a friggin' Colt, after all.

Edit: the ORIGINAL Vaquero is the best firearm ever made for it. The "New Vaquero" since renamed to just "Vaquero" again is still a great gun, but not as powerful for +P loads. Ruger really screwed up with their nomenclature on this series and confused a lot of people.

I think the vaquero would be a good gun. I have shot one in .45 colt and it felt good and still is in fine working condition.

But I don't think I would ever use a single action only for self defense unless I really had no other options.
