The WAVE people are all tweaked out of shape because as of 12/15/2010, passengers on Amtrak can legally travel with firearms in their checked baggage, The exact same way firearms are currently, and have always been transported on commercial airline flights.

I thought WAVE and it's supporters were just uninformed and paranoid, Now I realize they are really unintelligent and ignorant people who have absolutely no clue about what is going on around them on a daily basis.

Here is the article they linked to

here is the WAVE facebook page http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Wisconsin-Anti-Violence-Effort/273516596235

How and why is this group even viable?

Answer: By use of Joyce Foundation money, in cooperation with organizations bought out by the Joyce Foundation and by handing out "recognition awards" to those who advocate in favor of firearm restrictions at legislative hearings.

"Oregon, Wisconsin Police Chief Doug Pettit said the memo didn’t really provide direction for police, “I don’t know if the memo clarifies anything, other than it’s not automatic disorderly conduct charge.” Pettit added that like everything else these days, he would have to use discretion. I recommend to Chief Pettit a good reading and understanding of the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights."

btw - you have made a very good attempt to discuss gun issues rationally with the WAVE folks, thanks.

this presents an interesting situation...one would have to enter an Amtrack terminal before boarding the train...wouldnt that building essentially be a rented by the government since Amtrack is a government entity?

How is it different from entering an airport terminal? They are generally government-owned. Unless I'm going to NYC I always take a gun or two.

They're just now getting around to knowing about this?
It's been law for about a year, though Amtrak whined & complained & got a 1-year extension on their ban while they figured out how to handle luggage with guns. (How about just like all other luggage? Just like the airlines do?)

"The lifting of the ban was attached to an appropriations bill that was passed in December 2009."

I believe you need to "LIKE" their FB page before you are able to post on their wall, I absolutely refuse to "LIKE" that group or page, so I am limited to their discussion page to try and make them realize that a law-abiding citizen exercising his god-given right to self-defense, and exercising his 2A guaranteed rights to carry a firearm to be used in the defense of him/herself is nothing for them to fear.

People that subscribe to the WAVE way seem to base their decisions on emotion instead of fact. I present facts to them that they can understand more simply. I do not quote statistics, or call them un-American to their face. I make comments like "Why should a 98 pound woman not be allowed to defend herself against an attacker who is 3x their size? & Why do you want this poor women to be scared and unable to defend herself or her children?"

it seems to be working a little bit, because I see their "Friends" numbers dropping weekly. We need to be able to understand their decision making process, and emulate that to get some logic to make sense to them.

Very early on in my discussions with them, I made it very clear that the criminals need to be disarmed, but I also made it clear that I think that is an impossible task which has about as much success as the war on drugs has had. So if we are unable to disarm the criminals, why are they trying to take away our only means of defense against these illegally armed criminals? we spoke about V-tech, Luby's, etc and I pointed out that by those places being gun-free zones, the criminals ignored that rule, but the law-abiding citizens were left completely helpless. I also spoke of how these gun-free zones made absolutely sure that the crazed killer would find no resistance during his slaughtering of innocents and that is why in all cases of gun-free zone shooting that the killer was able to rack up such a huge body count.
I also brought up Mayor Barrett's beating, and how well relying on the police worked out for him, I mean seriously if it takes 17+ minutes for the cops to show for a high ranking public official, how long would it take for them to show up for a regular jackoff like you or I?

The same way I walk in to the US Post office to mail out a hand gun to another dealer ! Legal if the paperwork is right. 24 hr notice and locked in hard case!

I've done that though. So I have no idea. I don't think I've ever participated in any discussions either. I do see you are doing it. Keep up the good work!
